Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Greetings,

I can not see Apple going after HERE so quickly. Apple has a strong relationship with TomTom.

What I do see in the forth coming months, a very good possibility that GPS Software Developers might be jumping ship to TomTom, OpenStreetMag.org or one of the other map databases. This depends on the level of map information they need to keep the present software working.

The other possibility you have to look at is HERE could restructure itself which includes raising the price of the license fees and/or limit the platforms available for develops. For the Uconnect family, if FCA wants a better service, then they will have to pay a higher price for the starting year and the end user (us) will be charged a higher price for the update. At the same token, PND that uses HERE may have to give up free lifetime maps.

With all the rumors and speculation going around, FCA/Jeep needs to send their customers a status update. Keeping up the pressure will hopefully get us an answer.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

So was anyone brave enough to try this ?
Possible Garmin Navigation update method for the 8.4 UConnect systems
Like everything else, it is a speculative proposal and it might not work due to different hardware. But with these renewed effort to update their maps, why not give it a try?

I have tried this few months back.. it doesn't work on RA4 radios.
Dodge Dart/ Chrysler 300 they use RB5 radios, it uses different system to load the maps (exactly the same as Garmin Nuvi devices) copy new files on SD card/ USB and your maps are upgraded. Unfortunately we are not that lucky with RA4, RJ4 or RG4 radios.

With the current situation with HERE we might be waiting another year for the updated maps... meanwhile I use google maps on my phone.

I doubt anyone will see any updated info from FCA/Jeep until the situation regarding HERE is determined, and that could take some time. Should anyone need current maps, get a stand alone GPS, like a Garmin or others, for less than what the HERE updates cost and be happy. Might have to depend on it for a while.

Greetings,

I have to agree with you on this point.

Even through I do not use my IGO Primo app much which uses HERE, the last map update was back in September of 2014, prior to that it was about 10 months. Since September of 2014, Sygic, which uses TomTom maps has had 2 map upgrades. From tracking the smartphone apps over last couple of years, it led me to speculate that Nokia might have a finical problem.

Regardless of Nokia's current situation, I do think that FCA/Jeep does need to address the situation. The 2015 have the latest map, while the 2014 is still listed as MIA. My feeling is, if HERE is not resolved, the 2015 will be joining the 2014.

At this point, you have to consider that their are 2 problems holding back the map updates based on the present information in the thread. The 2014 radio is not sufficient to handle the current HERE map and HERE because of their situation does not want to invest resources to tailor the map to work for the 2014. This is why we need an answer from FCA/Jeep to settle all the rumors and speculation.

BTW, do not leave out the smartphone crowd.

Best for now.

Im not entirely convinced its a hardware issue as much as a poorly run and now as it looks a financialy deficient contractor (HERE). Even more reason that Jeep needs to take hold of this and fix it. Instead of just making a statement like i got from the jeep supervisor that my maps are current. 3 year old maps current how do they think a statement like that could be acceptable.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Has anyone done a map update from HERE? Just how does that process go? Download to external memory card, then load into the UConnect unit? Similar to a UConnect update? I acquired my GC a year ago and never had the pleasure of doing it

To my knowledge there has not been any updates on this unit at all but i wondered the same. How were the 2013 300Cs or 2013 RAMs updated? Or maybe they havnt been?

Greetings,

I still have to consider the hardware a possibility. From my understanding the software between the 2014 and 2015 is the same. In theory, the update should work with no problem.

By all means, Jeep has to address now and stop it before it gets worse. At the vary least Jeep should have some of radio recall and update the units to the 2015 models. :roll eyes: Imagine if they did that.

Best for now.

It could be hardware who knows but if they designed and produced a system that was so hardware deficient that it could not be updated once that is a pretty sad statement.

So if you check for map updates for the 2013 ram which also has the 8.4 get this it says the same thing, no map up dates. So ram is likely even worse off than we are as they are 1 model year older. Hard to say unless you know the map dates but i would bet they are older.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

I hate to say this, but with the vender sucking wind, I believe we are screwed for any map update in the foreseeable future, if ever.

Time to dust off and update the Garmin Nuvi.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee Map Update

Got my daily chuckle at the UConnect store under navigation benefits. What is a map change dashboard?

An Updated Map is a Safe Map

To maximize the benefits of your Uconnect® System, it is important to keep your navigation map up-to-date. Every year, new roads appear and old roads are modified. The opening and closing of businesses likewise alters the available points of interest. Check out the map change dashboard* for a detailed look at the updated roads and points of interest in your area. You can also use the fuel savings calculator to estimate the financial benefits of your navigation system.

So what are you waiting for? Update your map and enjoy a more efficient and comfortable driving experience.

* Change statistics represent updates to HERE map data that may not be available for all navigation systems.
