I just traded in my 2011 wk2 for a 2014 Overland with the Hemi and 4x4. So far I've been loving it.
Today my radio volume started doing something weird. It will turn itself down to 0 even if I am trying to turn it up. It's almost as if something is stuck on the volume down button. My first thought was that something might be stuck on the steering wheel button? Has anyone else had this issue?
I've tried soft-resetting uconnect, which solved the problem for about 15 minutes before it started doing it again. Does anyone know what the problem might be or how I can fix it before having to go to the dealership?
Now I've just made the problem worse - I tried factory resetting the system and it has gotten rid of everything. All of my seat controls, options, etc. are gone - will a simple download of a software update fix that?
On top of that, the problem persists even after the reset. I fear I'm going to have to make a painful trip to the dealership and this is going to cost me quite a bit to have them fix it.
Factory reset is just that, wipes everything clean, and back to factory settings. Looks like you'll be resetting all those personal preferences. If you just bought the vehicle, take it to the dealer and have him run the vin for an update history. There were quite a few software updates for the '14 uconnect system. You can check this site to run your vin. https://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/
It looks like the software is the latest version and the settings have all magically reappeared. So thankful for your advice and that that problem has been remedied.
As far as the volume situation...I can't imagine what is going on here and I'm wondering if it might be something related to the steering wheel controls. Has anyone heard of the volume turning itself down? I can't imagine this is going to be a cheap/easy fix if I take it to the dealer....I bought the car used from a non-Jeep dealer and have had only it for 3 days.
A long shot but maybe make sure you have turned off bluetooth or maps. They may be cutting in & shutting mute radio and you don't hear them because volume could be down.
Thanks LJS - it sounds weird but I don't think it's that issue. It's not cutting straight out. It literally acts like someone is holding down the volume down button on the steering wheel. I'll turn it up and it'll go right back down.
I'm just not sure what the dealership is able to do to help me here either, short of replacing the buttons on my steering wheel or replacing the whole system.
Update - the problem is definitely with the steering wheel buttons. If I press any button on the steering wheel, it starts turning the volume down and won't stop until I reset uconnect.
Is this something disconnecting the battery might be able to fix? If so, what is the process to do so and are there any concerns I should have?
Sounds more like a faulty switch. Doesn't the selling dealer take any responsibility for the operating condition of the vehicle with such an early failure after purchase? You could search the forum, as I believe there has been discussion of replacement of that component here somewhere.
I've looked all over the forum but have been unable to find someone else with the same issue.
What does a fix like this entail? Can I take it to my trusted mechanic or does it need to go to the dealership? Have called around and all of my local dealerships are booked for service through August...
I've narrowed the problem down to just the ok/arrow buttons, the back buttons, and the phone buttons. I'm hoping it's just the switch, but am worried my whole uconnect system may be broken - trying to prepare for the worst. If I don't touch those buttons, then there is no problem.
