2014 Laredo E 6spk Stock System Upgrade

Hi all. New to the forums here. After lurking and researching, I've ordered the components to upgrade the stock audio system on my 2014 Laredo E with the 8.4A Uconnect system (RA3 / no nav / no amp / no sub).

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting pics and my install log for the benefit of all JeepGarage members.

I've been a "beginner" car audio enthusiast for quite some time. This will be my first install.

Component list:
1. Speakers: Focal IS-165 Component (Front) and Focal IC-165 Two-way (Rear)
2. Amplifier: Alpine PDX-V9 5-channel amplifier with remote sub level knob
3. PAC/LOC: AudioControl LC7i
4. Subwoofer: TBD, but most likely a sealed 10" sub in the trunk
5. Tools: Wiring harnesses, 6x9 adapter, dremmel, heat shrink tubing, crimpers, trim removal tools, speaker wire (16 gauge), zip ties, scotch exterior mounting tape, industrial velcro, glue, amplifier wiring kit.

General Procedure:
1. Install speakers to doors
2. Run new wiring from doors to amp location
3. Tap into high-level signal, run wires to PAC/LOC location
4. Install amp and PAC/LOC (power, ground, RCAs, remote-on, etc.)
5. Level match, fine tune and test!

See attached a preliminary wiring diagram.

A few questions still remain, I would appreciate any input from JG members:

1. Are the mounting locations appropriate? I didn't want to mount the amp above the battery under the front passenger seat just in case I need quick access to replace the battery.

2. Does the LC7i's auto-remote-on-sensing feature work? If not, where are other members tapping into the remote on?

3. Any suggestions for a power source for the LC7i near the rear driver's side seat? Any appropriate ground locations (I believe I've seen other members using bolts in the pillars).

4. Where would be the best place to tap into the full range signal? I have the 6-speaker setup, so I'll have Fronts and Rears only (4 cables). I've seen some other members finding all the cables in the footwell, which would be convenient.

Any other comments or input would be appreciated! Currently waiting for all of my gear to arrive. Expected install date: Saturday, November 30.

1. Locations look OK. You don't want to install under passenger seat. Check for clearance (of course) in your planned locations before running any wires.

2. Yes. I have the LC6i (same thing - AccuBass), and the auto-sensing turn-on works great.

3. I have my LC6i power coming straight from my amp's +12V. There's no need to run a new power from anywhere. Just tap off the amp, and install a 1-2A (whatever AC calls for) fuse inline between the amp's power, and LC7i's power.

I also have their GNDs connected to the same location. You may have to play with the GND jumper on the LC6i. I think they have it shipped as "Isolated". I had a turn-off click/static when opening the driver's door with the jumper in this location. I moved the jumper to "GND", and the click/pop is gone. It also has a 200-ohm setting.

4. Unsure, but you may have to play with this also. I have the Alpine systems, and there is no full-range. You should be able to easily tell the best by playing some dynamic music with range, and then fading/balancing between 1 front and 1 rear speaker. Put your ear down there (not too loud), and listen for the most range.

Thanks for the quick response kkreit - incredibly helpful.

A follow-up question..

Should I be concerned about introducing noise by running LC7i's power alongside the RCA outputs that will feed the amp?

I ask because generally i've seen suggestions to wire power and signal as far away from each other as possible.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if the signals to the stock 6spkr system are full range or will I need to sum Front + Rear to get full range?

Re: 2014 Laredo E 6spk Stock System Upgrade

Keep them as far away as possible, but I don't have any noice/alternator whine associated with mine. I have a JBL EZ amp.

If you currently have a full-range signal available, you really don't need the LC7i. You could get away with LC2i. I only used the LC6i, because I had to for it's summing feature. It was the cheapest solution for me. If money were no object, I'd get a DSP.

Hi, did you installed your setup? Iam thinking on doing the same configuration. Did the lc7i worked? From where did you get the full range signal?
