Robbie_c: The script works fantastic. The specific script you want is entitled "Export Selected with M3U". The reason you need the script is that the M3U file contains a pointer to each of the file locations. In iTunes, this pointer is directed at the iTunes library on your computer's HDD (or wherever you keep it). The script copies the files in the playlist to the destination (SD, USB drive, desktop, wherever) and then exports a M3U file with corrected pointers to direct it toward the files new, actual location.

It's a free script, though he does ask for a donation. I made a small contribution, because the script does exactly what I needed. One caveat. After you make a playlist like this and put on SD, it takes a little while for the system to read/load it once you insert it in the vehicle. I have 2,000 songs on 9 playlists on a 16GB card right now. It started playing after about 20 seconds, but it wasn't fully loaded and available for over a minute. By "fully loaded and available" I mean the display was correct (TAG, artwork), song count showing on display was correct, and all playlists accessible when called up.

Once you have selected a "playlist", shuffle mode works within a playlist. It does not currently work within a user defined "folder".

The directions for installing the scripts are correct. It's very easy and it works as advertised. Good luck.

How is that any different than just highlighting the files in iTunes and copying them to the SD card? I made a Rock folder and copied it all in to it.

I have the same issue, but the radio always starts trying to read the USB slot instead of the SD slot. I just press the SD icon and the music almost instantly starts.

No different, really, except that "in addition to" copying the files for you, the script also creates a M3U playlist file with proper references to the songs in their new location on the SD card. Drag/drop works fine, but there is no playlist and if you export an M3U playlist from iTunes, it will export with the references to the songs location within the iTunes library; not the SD card. You can specify the play order on a playlist. Or, you can use "shuffle" mode within the playlist and it will work correctly. Shuffle mode does not currently work correctly within a user-defined folder.

The real benefit of the script is the creation of the M3U.

Re: 2014 sd card capacity?

I currently have 9 folders of music on my SD card, and 9 corresponding playlists.

For example, I can select "browse", "playlist", "rock" and play the rock playlist in the specified order or I can select "shuffle" and it will stay in shuffle mode WITHIN the rock folder.

In contrast, on my unit, at the moment, if I select "browse", "folder", "rock", it would play in the alpha-numeric order of filenames, BUT if I then select "shuffle", the unit shuffles the entire contents of the SD card, not just the contents of the "rock" folder.

Hope that makes sense. Not being able to shuffle within a folder is clearly a bug and hopefully one that will be fixed soon in an update.

If shuffle mode worked correctly within a folder, I personally wouldn't use playlists. But, a lot of other people use playlists to control the specific order of playback.

Re: 2014 sd card capacity?

To all working off of a Mac, I just dumped roughly 50GB worth of music onto a Sandisk 64GB SDXC and all of my music loaded in about 2 minutes. All artwork and artist folders work perfectly. All I did was drag the itunes folders below into the SD. Try this first. If your libraries are clean it works perfectly. Drag the following:

Album Artwork Folder
Itunes Library Extras.itdb
Itunes Library Genius.itdb
Itunes Library.itl
Itunes Music Folder
Itunes Music Library.xml

Re: 2014 sd card capacity?

This is good to know. You are the 2nd person I've seen that reported success with a card larger than 32GB. My entire music collection is 75GB, and I'd love to drag it onto a 128GB card, but I'm reluctant to buy it until I have some sense of whether or not it will work, because I have no other use for it. I've got 10GB of music I can live without and accomplish the same objective on a 64GB card.

You must have a very clean iTunes library. Getting my music cleaned up to be played in the vehicle revealed to me the inadequacy of my TAG data, missing and non-embedded artwork, duplicate songs, dead folders, and the seemingly infinte number of different genre categories in my collection. I have most of the work done now, except for consolidating and streamlining the genre list, which I'm finding very tedious and time-consuming.

I wish the UConnect group would put out some sort of technical guidance on the system's requirements and limitations, rather than having to rely on the trial/error of other customers.

I had to go through all my music in iTunes and clean it up and add album covers the past few days. Thanks again Bass, I did the m3u playlist thing and works like a charm.

I've seen people being successful with 64GB card on Dart forums. I have not yet seen anybody claiming that with 128GB card. Either that means that nobody tried or it doesn't work. I think there is also a limit on how many songs you can actually index.

My educated guess is that it will probably NOT work. I actually have seen list of SD cards (brands, models and sizes) from UConnect and on that list they don't even have 32GB cards.

Re: 2014 sd card capacity?

I have no idea what most of the previous posts mean as I am not educated at all with the different file formats and so forth. But I have a 32 g SD card. If I copy the files from iTunes to the SD card, they show up as mpeg4 files. Will that work when I put the SD card in the port in my Jeep? Do I need to change the file format to get it to work somehow? And if so, how do I do that(simpliest terms possible please)?

Thanks for the help. I pick up mine first thing tomorrow morning. Got delivered today.
