Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

Sure, in the big-picture scheme-of-things the fact the radio (uconnect 5) turns on upon restart isn't the end of the world, but it sure is frustrating. I too have never seen a radio that automatically plays upon start-up. Never. Why cant they program a simple line that says if it was muted when shut-down, leave it muted on start-up. Even if I mute it right after starting the vehicle (2014 GC Laredo), it will unmute a couple of times during the boot-up. Looks like a poorly designed/programmed product to me. And Jeep has taken the "it's not a bug, it's a feature" approach. Reminds me of an old timer that used to say "I don't care if you P on my leg, just don't tell me it's rain."

Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

I would imagine that will be addressed in an update someday.

Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

I hope it will be addressed in an update someday, but right now Jeep's customer service is of the opinion that nothing is wrong with the jeep, just my expectations. They first have to acknowledge it's something that should be addressed and in my two communications with them it's quite the opposite.

Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

The auto unmute is silly and annoying.

Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

I agree it is a little foolish. They can certainly impliment this in the programming but I advise people to complain to their dealers... I don't have that kind of influence but if a few people have Star Cases opened that they can't get the radio to "Stay Off" it will get looked at.

I know they are aware of the problem, just at the place they do the programming it was not a priority.

Is this 'feature' new to the '14s?

Yes, prior radios (even from Harmon Group) would stay in the muted state. When they went to the remote amp, it doesn't seem to recall like that.

Feature... LOL

Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

What am I missing? Some are acting like it is a defect. I guess it has been a non-issue for me. I would put it in as a suggestion and not a complaint. Save the complaints for real issues like transmissions and such.

2014 Turn off the Radio

What if your TV turned itself back on whenever you came home? Maybe not a bug, but at least a misfeature.

Would the TV also come onto a good channel? If so, that would be great so I do not have to find the remote.

Definitely not a bug and not no sure a misfeature either. Just something some do not like.

Re: 2014 Turn off the Radio

I disagree that it is not a mis-feature (maybe not a real defect but not well thought out). Half of the rest of my life is dedicated to consulting on home automation and making peoples TV, lights radio etc do what they want automatically and or in conjunction with other actions.

The problem is, the NORM that an average person would expect is that if I turn off my radio that it would remain in that state the next time I get in the car (synced with my remote or not) and or I would have the option to change that. Not being able to decide not to have to turn off you radio every time is the problem. having to take an extra step every time you enter your vehicle to get it to the state you want it is exactly what SHOULD NOT happen and is the entire point behind the customization of remembered options in the vehicle with the remote.

In the automation world we often reference "wouldn't it be nice if your house knew to turn off the things you are not using any more when you leave like your car automatically shuts off all the accessories and HVAC when you turn it off... including delayed lighting etc." If you turned off your car then had to switch off the heat and then the radio then turn off the lights that would be a step backwards. I feel that a radio that does not return to the prior muted state is a step backwards in the car world and it needs to be corrected.

I will add, I never turn my radio off, in fact I listen to music every second I drive so I am not judging this problem from personal preference.

Exactly! The only thing I should have to do when I get in my Jeep is press the start button and put my seatbelt on. All other settings (including eco) should either go to a setting that I preset in memory, or default to the settings selected when the car was shut off.

With all the testing Jeep does, it makes me wonder how these cars ever hit the road without giving any thought to customer preferences.
