Re: 2014 UConnect phone pairing issues?

First post-

So I just joined the jeep community with my 2014 Laredo. Ive had it for a week, bout 300 miles on it by now, and i am in love with it.

The only 2 things about it is- 1) cant use the windows when the car is off. need to start it up every time. i glanced thru the settings and didnt see an option for this.

BUT! what i am posting for is the phone pairing issue. So apparently there is a fix ready, but when I enter my VIN number into that site, it says there is no update available. I read some people did it from home, anyone have success with the regular Laredo? If not I guess ill take it into the dealership for the fix, but i would much rather do it from home.

Thanks!

Welcome!

There are 2 Radios available in the Laredo. The 8.4 Touch Screen and the 5. Check your options, if it lists an RA3 you can do the update, just search out the thread called UConnect update available now!.

If it is the 5 inch, I don't have any experience with that unit yet.

On your windows, they will work in accessories mode. dont put your foot on the brake, just tap the start button once and it will say ACC on the display and you can use your windows. Tap the start button again and it will be in RUN mode without the engine running. Tap again to shut off.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick and informative response man! Great news with the window problem...

And I believe I have the 5inch, i went to the site and no update is available according to the site, but when I called Uconnect they said my dealership should have the solution there.

I guess i have to take it in! At least there is a fix hopefuly.

There is a STAR Case on pairing issues with the 5 Inch and there is a specific update they are supposed to do if your Build was before March 10th.... don't worry about the date, just have them check it.

If they don't know what you are talking about just tell them to look at STAR Cases for the 2014 using the key word UConnect. It is clearly marked with a pairing issue after restart.

All three phones synced all addresses that had phone numbers. Minimum count of 427 addresses all the way up to 768.

I would be interested to hear if other people are specifically having issues with the iPhone 5 AND also if the newer version of the system of uConnect is worse?

If you post please also mention if you activated your system as that seems to be much more buggy at least until a reset is done.
I have a new jeep on order with a 8.4AN Nav console and need to get a couple of new cell phones. I was considering a Samsung S.4 android which some users say no problem but want a basic cell for wife that would sync. She does not text but uses voice commands. Verizon suggested the LG COSMOS 3 With a LG-VN251S system but will not confirm if it will work and wants me to forfit the activation fee and pay a $35 restock fee if it won't.....fat chance. Any help would be appreciated. Since my contract is up I might even dump Verizon wireless

Check the UConnect website. I believe there is a list of "current" compatible phones and features available

I ended up updating that same Jeep to 13.15.4 and have used more Devices with it. The comparable devices page is pretty garbage at least last time I checked, unless you want to go buy a 2 year old phone.

Since I have been exploring other people's issues with the devices I have noticed that some of the phones cut the audio out on purpose for alerts. I am looking to see how those settings are changed because one of my friends with a Caddy his iPhone cuts out but it is actually doing this on purpose so I need to see if the symptom is possibly the same on the note 2.

I am running Android Jelly Bean myself and I Find it works fine on my Droid RAZR HD.

I still fall back to the fact that Bluetooth is a standard, just like wireless networking. It either supports the Bluetooth standard or it doesn't so this funny business about supporting an iPhone 4S but not a 5 is just garbage. Same OS, Bluetooth compliant = should work fine.

Also on those using the Samsung products, I use google music as my player, you may want to try other players as of course there are tones on google play

I downloaded a list from the Uconnect site but it is 2011 and so much out of date. If you have a link I would appreciate you providing. I have been searching for days and am very P.O. about lack of info.

Sorry their info is out of date and not correct. A lot of other phones work just fine. They do need to update it.

Thanks for your quick reply, I don't mind getting a iphone for me, but right now my wife and I have old LG Accolade flip phones that I use mostly to find her when I .....she.....get separated in the mall and I don't want to spend 5 hours searching for her . The cell phones have Bluetooth and voice commands but a flip phone needs to be open to use and answer. I would prefer buying phones that use a common car charger regardless of model cell phone purchased.
I like the Samsung S4 over the Apple I5 due to the fact that the Sammy has ability to put a 64GB microSD card in it and according to the Uconnect specs, the Uconnect will play either standard or micro SD cards.

The rub on both of these phones are the Apple is Glass and the Sammy is plastic. Monoprice.com has a case for the new Sammy for $3.00 but when I asked Verizon Wireless they wanted $121. for a case and car charger.
That is getting a bit off topic but sort of related. I am sure most of us simply want plug and play with no supprises. I hope that Uconnect will post a up to date compatibility chart as their wizard shows very few options and if one puts in the wizard "Samsung....Verizon" the results are "Samsung Nexus" which Verizon no longer sells.

Both Samsung and iPhone use gorilla glass so it is a very similar surface.

I too recommend the S4 as it is the most versatile for sure. If the flip phone supports Bluetooth, there is a very good chance it will work just fine with the radio in the Jeep. Most of the communication issues are with huge address books and other data transfer with the phone which will not happen with a basic cell as it would only support voice and dial. The Jeep actually will allow the users to flip back and forth between preferred audio sources and telephone Bluetooth with multiple devices connected.

IMO the software updates will continue to improve the BT performance as I said above the problems seem to be associated more often with the smart phones doing "other things" with the radio and causing the "funny crap"

Yes I believe her old flip phone might work but what I wanted if I get the S4 was a car charger that will fit both the S4 and whatever basic phone I get for her. I forgot to look when I was at the dealer but I assume the new ride will have a universal (cigarette lighter) port to plug in a car charger. Every time get a new cell Verizon has to sell me a NEW type of car charger. I think it is a racket. If I have a charger that will work on both new phones, all I would have to buy is one for each vehicle I own. Compatible Products - Cell Phone Accessories ECA-U20CBEG | Samsung Cell Phones 24.95

With Verizon if she has anything other than a basic phone it will cost an upgrade of 33%in the plan charge. I see a Samsung Intensity® III (Verizon) which is basic but it uses a BREW operating system. I don't know if this phone would be compatible with Uconnect?

Any advice appreciated.
