2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

Got an odd issue that I was hoping some of you guys might have insight on.

So, when I play only certain songs through the Media Input (MP3's), the front door speaker mostly on the passenger side will rattle. It almost sounds like a blown speaker, but if I press my hand against the grill over the speaker, I can stop it from happening. I have my bass set at zero on the EQ, and I am at about 14 volume, which isn't blaringly loud. I never get this rattle on XM or Radio. I'd replace the speakers if they were blown, but I don't think they are. Some of my MP3's with even deeper bass don't cause the rattle... it's just certain songs. So weird.

It's driving me a bit nuts, because I have a long drive to work and I use my audio system a lot.

Re: 2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

Greetings,

With the MP3 2 areas that could be the possible problem

Problem # 1:

When dealing with digital compressed media such as MP3, it is very possible certain frequencies within a song can cause the problem you are experiencing. That problem will lead to 1 or 2 things that I could think that might be at cause is the voice coil is damaged or the surround material of the driver has a small rip in it.

Some MP3 app's or computer programs are starting to address this problem as well. I am not sure which ones anymore. If you have the ability to use FLAC for your playlist, you will have a better sound quality.

Problem # 2:

Never rule out the input jack. Try using a different cable to rule out this out. Also, try a different MP3 player.

If you have constant rattling from any source either the speaker is not mounted correctly on the frame which is called the spider (bracket) is loose from the magnet or the speaker physically is not mounted correctly to the door.

If you are still under warranty bring it in, but first try ruling out stuff yourself. Sometimes a service center will not have a clue and give you the wrong advise.

Best for now.

Re: 2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

I am using my USB stick for the Media playback.

I'm pretty sure it's a door vibration issue. If I hold on to the map pocket, and I play the same spot in a song I know will make the rattle, it stops it. I am going to try and place some rigid foam in the map pocket to dampen the vibration. I wonder if I can take my vehicle somewhere and have them do something to the speakers to dampen them in the door.

Re: 2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

Greetings,

If you can take the door panel off or have it done at the dealer in your presences. Watch the driver while playing the MP3 source that gave you the problem and another source (if possible the same song) as well for the vibration or anything that does not look normal. An audio shop will mostly charge you something for this service unless you purchase a new set of speakers.

The OE speaker is nothing to write home about. If you have any doubts and you are still under warranty get a new one.

Best for now.

Try messing with the EQ settings a little bit and see if that helps.

It's most likely a the door panel causing that sound. If it was the speaker it would happen at any volume from any audio source.

Having the exact same problem with my SRT..... Did you figure it out? Dealer has changed speaker and door panel and I still have the problem.

Re: 2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

not sure if my problem is the same as you are experiencing, but I had a vibration on the passenger door that drove me crazy (only on certain lower bass notes)...it was the plastic square that covers the bolt in the inside door handle...it was vibrating/buzzing...a little sticky to keep it from moving and no more vibration

Re: 2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

I know this sounds crazy, but stuffing something very snug (I used a piece of foam) into the passenger map pocket seems to be stopping the problem. Not sure why that would be the case. I dont love stuffing the map pocket as a solution. Feels like the whole door panel or something as a part of the panel rattles. I really don't think it's the speaker itself. Still trying to narrow it down.

I thought it was passenger door as well in my case it's the same glasses holder that vibrates on some songs.

Re: 2014 WK2 Speaker Rattle/Vibration

I am having a similar issue. Certain songs when turned up sound like my speakers are blown . I am using a USB with MP3's. I am almost getting a popping sound. I move the fade and balance and it sounds like it's coming from the tweeters sometimes but then sometimes it comes out of all speakers. The strange thing is some songs have no issues even at full volume. Other songs I get this crackling/popping sound. These are the issues i hate to bring to the dealer since they won't figure it out. Are there any updates on the system that could cure this? I also get bad sound quality during Bluetooth conversations.
