The one on my vehicle seems like it's right in the middle. There is no way you could get anything into it.

I don't know if I should try sticking something in there and try to push it up, then try getting the chip in there. Or else just forget the whole thing?

It's up to you, but I would try slightly angling the USB upward when you insert it. It should not go in completely horizontal to the ground. At least it didn't for me. It is a little bit tighter fit than most other USB inserts I've ever used. I assume they probably did that to prevent rattles. At this point though, it may be worth it just to take it to the dealer for the peace of mind of knowing that they messed with it instead of you :-)

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee Radio Software Recall Update ?

I called the 800 number....... Again. This gal told me they did send the wrong ones out to some people. I swear these idiots could screw up a one car funeral. Any way, she told me I could go out and buy a 4 gig USB Flash Drive, then download it from the U-Connect website. Or....... Wait for it.... Take it to the dealer. This I would like to avoid. And if I buy the flash drive, it's not going to go into the port any better than what I've got. I standard USB port is .500 wide. I checked it. So is the chip they sent me. The female port in my car is smaller. You can see it with a flashlight when I try to put the chip in.

So at this point I'm nowhere. I'm going to simply leave it alone for now. I can't believe these people would send out a chip that's wider than the port it's supposed to go into. Perhaps if I had a degree in computer engineering, like the guys who designed this abortion, I could then understand.

I'm actually at Moore Jeep now hopefully getting my steering wheel straightened. I actually have the update drive on me. Like I said, if you want, you are more than welcome to use mine.

It is a USB thumb drive they sent, right? Not an SD or anything like that? Can you post a photo?

Otherwise, just go to the uconnect site, enter your vin and you can re-download and/or get the instructions.

I've also attached the instructions. As others have mentioned, it only takes 10-15min.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee Radio Software Recall Update ?

OK, all fixed. I called the dealer, and he told me to bring it right in, and he promised he would have me in and out in 10 minutes. I brought everything with me like he asked, and HE COULDN'T GET THE DAMN THING IN EITHER! He said they sent me a POS. He went and got his, (the dealer has them on flash drives), and it went right in. It took about 10 minutes total to download. He then checked everything, (he was pushing buttons and changing screens left and right), and told me, "You're all set, have a nice day!"

I should have done that right off the bat. Anyway, my first experience with the service dept. (Larry Miller Avondale Jeep), was a good one. Now I won't feel so bad if something goes to hell and I have to take it in. Thanks for all the helpful replies, guys. I appreciate it.

I keep a Battery Tender handy for installing updates to minimize the chance of battery drain. Helps the battery last longer, too!

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee Radio Software Recall Update ?

Frankly you should have posted this in the Audio / Video / Navigation forum, and read a bit more about it. The subject of the hacking and its subsequent patching with 15.26.1 has only been covered only a dozen times since July. I updated the radio myself on July 16. People have been updating these radios since at least May 2013.

That's all fine and dandy. But the fact is I can't update anything if the software they give me doesn't fit into the port it's supposed to.

And what is preventing you from downloading it yourself ? You don't have to go to the dealership for everything... Software updates are designed to be handled by the end user. Go to the Best Buys of your place of living, get yourself a 4 Gb USB drive for $5 and download it from the UConnect Website and follow basic instructions.

Why should I go and buy something the dealer already has, and is ready, willing, and able to do for me totally free of charge? That makes no sense. Besides, my dealer is closer, and has free coffee and donuts. I'm not going to go and right away spend money on something I don't have to, because some clown on their end sent me a bad chip.

How did it not fit? I don't understand. USB is USB unless there was something physically wrong with it. And if there was, you could tell just by looking at it. Maybe you had some debris in the USB slot? Did you look in the slot with a flashlight? Was the chip deformed in any way? Pics?
