Don't know if it's been brought up, but the newest map update has been delayed until January. That was from the HERE customer service rep. No explanation either - shocker. What a joke.

The Big Deal involves a Navigation system on even brand new vehicles being YEARS out of date.

A major road in my area was finished less than a year ago. Good navigation systems that update over the air (Google, etc.) know about changes like this. But the system in my 2015 Overland is clueless.

Why mapping updates aren't pushed OTA is beyond stupid. Probably couldn't figure out how to charge us enough $$$ for it.

There's a whole thread stickied up above about map updates for 2014...

Navigation in the Jeep is worthless. I think just about all of us use our phones at this point. Each time I try to use the jeep navigation I get very disappointment. My 2014 GC Overland was terrible and I expect my 2017 Overland to be the exact same setup. :(

I don't need to use navigation very often, but the times I have it has worked just fine in my 2015. What works very well is the voice recognition in inputting addresses. My wife's 2015 Honda on the other hand, you will lose your mind trying to input an address while on the fly. The most worthless system I have ever used, and I'm a big Honda/Acura fan as well. I think overall, the 8.4 Uconnect is still one of the best systems on the market, even if the maps are out of date (which for me in my area I haven't noticed).

That would make sense. In 2015 they realeased maps that contained data from 2013.

I would imagine all 2015,16 and 17 models are using that data. Factory MY 14 is using even older data so you can upgrade for $150 to match what 15,16,17 have which at this point is quite old as well.

Is there a way to tell what map version is installed in our JGCs, and then is there some master list of versions and their release dates to compare to and see how current we are? My 2016 is less than a year old. I would like to think that part of the new car sale transfer prep they do is to ensure the latest map version is installed when the new owner picks up their new rig.

They do that sure ... the latest available dataset for uconnect nav is q4 2013. For you it is free and comes installed allrrady. For me they want $150 for it so I can do the upgrade myself and be ***only*** 3 years behind like the rest of recent MY.

Did Jeep make any claims about map updates when we were sold these vehicles? If they did then it could be time for a class action lawsuit. In Europe I'd say that the system was not of merchantable quality, it's a general purpose attack when people sell you crap. This apology for a navigation system was chosen by Chrysler to save them a few bucks and costs twenty times what it's worth.

Well better late than never.. the 4th gen uconnect actually looks 'ok'. and claims to have a "higher definition" screen. However without much more information, I would say the maps are most likely going to be outdated, and hardly release any upgrades for them - as we've always seen to be the case.

Theres a bunch for sale on eBay already.. but they have some new connections (unsure what the extra fakra does and the extra connector).

One of them sold relatively cheap:

I guess I can understand why younger folks want the latest and greatest and highest resolution. But me......well.....it ain't like I'm watching movies on the damned thing.

I have an '11 with the 430N and a '14 with the 8.4AN and both quite clearly show me the road I'm on...the intersecting roads....pictures of interstate exits on my route....and both function well with Bluetooth for phone and incoming text on both my Android and my wife's iPhone.

I really can't....and shouldn't....take my eyes off of the road long enough to tell you if the resolution is 640 x 480 or 1240 x 1080.

I know there are better looking screens available but I can't really obsess about it since both of my units perform as advertised and serve the function intended. Maybe by the time I wear out the '11 they will be incorporating the latest and greatest but I doubt I will even notice as long as my phone pairs and I can see the route on the screen.

Now....I had an '11 GMC truck with factory NAV and THAT was an ugly screen and UGLY map. I traded that 3500 diesel dually 4x4 truck off with 3500 miles on it just because I hated the GPS map. The '15 Chevy unit I have now is MUCH better.

Agreed - I'm happy with the display on my 2014... but the maps.. over here in aussie land they were 2012Q2 on mine at time of purchase, and there is no update.. and my area has next to no roads shown on the map - so I basically can't see where I'm going or where any streets are around here until I get to roads which were built prior to 2012! It's basically a useless navigation system in my terms. I have to use my android phone / google maps etc, which currently in our country is deemed illegal to use a mobile phone while driving (not just for texting/calls), the Police are pretty strict on it... So i'm certain if I'm caught looking at my phone while driving to check the map, a cop will issue me a fine.
