2016 wk2 amp question.

I'm in the process of overhauling my base model 2016 Laredo E audio system. I'm running a helix dsp to an arc audio 1200.6 amp, to GS series audiofrog components (active) with a 12" audiofrog GS sub, no rear door speakers.

So my question is, the stock base model amp for the 6 speaker system, is the volume control and fader control actually in the amp, the stock head unit being more of a remote?

I'm asking this because it would obviously dictate whether I take the audio pre or post stock amp when running to the dsp.

Unfortunately to my knowledge there is no reliable work around yet for these vehicles with climate control and what not, to retain those features while upgrading to an aftermarket head unit. Thus the reason I'm going to the route I've outlined above.

Any info would be appreciated, new to this forum.

Oh okay, I wasn't aware that there was no external amplifier. New to the jeep world and all this integrated crap. Super inconvenient when it comes to audio upgrades, but thanks for that info.

I don't see the need for a summing device. The factory setup it components up front which is what I'm doing for upgrade just making it an active system and the rear doors are full range which I'll grab for the sub then lp in the dsp.

Unless of course I'm missing something. Summing is intended to create full range signals, which in my case I feel would be counterproductive.

you are 100% right, summing channels would be for anyone with the 9 speaker or HK systems (with center channels). That was my bad.

In your case you have full range signals already for front and rear (stock tweeters grab signal from the door woofers and are attenuated with a cap on the tweeter itself).

So that should be easy peasy to upgrade. I wish I had the 6 speaker system, my 9 speaker system really blows!

Yeah, I've read that. I don't trust any OEM "premium sound" package. If I'm going to spend extra money on audio give me the base model and I'll build it myself.

I just hope someone comes up with a product that will allow us to upgrade to an aftermarket head unit and retain all factory bells and whistles reliably. Doing frequency correction on those embellished peaks and valleys is a pain in the ass. Then after you've fixed it still have to do time delay and a proper tune.

I had no choice at the time because to get the factory backup camera and park assist you needed to have the Alpine upgrade. Otherwise i'd have the 6 speaker system.

just wanted toc omment, good choice on DSP, heard good things about the helix and the ARC, well, you cant go wrong with them. I've been eyeing that 6 channel amp, i have 2 Kar amps right now, 300.2 and a 300.4, love the sound, quiet noise floor, no issues with them. They take up more room and than one you have and generate more heat but at the time, they said if i was worried about noise floor, shy away from the class d but that was also before they came out with the second gen.

I had a zed leviathan, i mean, its a gnarly amp but it had a terrible noise floor, could hear all sorts of noise, really, it was shame.

I'm about to make a post after this probably but i'm starting a similar project but i thinking i'm going to get a minidsp for the processor and i'm probably doing a custom fit sub enclosure in the factory location, not really looking forward to it but haven't found anything else that i like.

good luck!
