Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Well, for the first time I did get the iPhone 3GS to load up via the center console USB without getting an "error occurred" message. Sweet! Only thing is there is no sound. I am guessing I have to select the small window on the phone, bottom right in iPod view and select "cable" vs Uconnect (didnt have time and thought of it after the fact) I will try this out later tonight- Hope so!

Logan -

Just wondering, did you try streaming from your phone? (As opposed to using the cable for USB)- I just posted a new thread about using the BT streaming for Pandora. And I assume you have Pandora, too.
Post your results - I have learned a lot from others experiences here - and I have only had my Jeep for a couple days!

I actually chose the uConnect option at that step and it started playing back. I had already disabled BT so I know it was playing over the cable. My guess is that choosing "cable" means you control it from the device, but choosing uConnect integrates it with the vehicle's controls. I need to confirm that.

JeepLaw- Yes, I am able to BT the iPhone 3GS w/Pandora (black screen/locked) but the sound quality isn't perfect. I am hoping to utilize the USB center console more, now that Apple software and Jeep Radios are finally in sync.

Yes, but with the BT disabled, does your phone / uConnect still operate via the center console USB ?

That's an excellent question: w/BT disabled, will phone functions work through the center console USB connection?

Answer: Negative. I just tried. The 430n screen will plainly say that the phone is not available but the voice prompts will give you the available voice commands for phone control. They fail when you try them.

Had to plug and re-plug the USB connector into the console port 2x before it would work, but was able to issue voice commands to control music playback off of my iPhone4 in this way. Since this kills hands-free phone operation though, it won't be a setup I use very frequently. This is better suited for a dedicated playback-only device like my old retired gen 1 iPhone, or for letting the kids jack their devices in during road trips.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Thanks for checking Cperez! This changes my iPhone use as a music player option. Luckily I have an old 60GB iPod I can now use for the center console, and leave the bluetooth / uConnect the way it was. Now I can have a stand alone Pandora with Bluetooth, and 60 GB via the USB connector. Sweet.

That's how I've chosen to view it-- not as a bunch of limitations, but rather a bunch of options.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Downloading my iTunes - I simply downloaded from my computer to the flash drive then plugged the flash drive into the USB port. It took a couple of times before I figured out that you had to complete the entire download or start over. It took about 40 mins. to download about 1,800 songs. I took an extewnded drive around the block. At any rate, when it was all done it worked great. You can sort by artist, album and song. I'll try downloading playlists next. I made another discovery. With my iPhone paired I can press AUX and it will start streaming songs from my iPhone. The sound quality isn't nearly as good as the hard drive but still pretty cool.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

I tried my iPhone with the cable (USB) in the center console, and the radio wouldn't read it - so I am using iPod on the cable, and iPhone on the BTooth-gives me access to all my music options with the voice commands for both-(less commands options on the BT)-still better than anythiing I have ever used. I have not loaded anything on the hard drive yet. When I had the iPhone on the cable, I forgot to disable BT on the iPhone, so this might be an issue also.
So many combinations, I am still trying to figure them out. Making progress - in the meantime, vehicle drives great, great seats, good power, love the bells and whistles on the Overland - it is cold here - heated steering wheel is a treat! Rain sensitive wipers are cool, too!
Keep the reports coming, I keep learning more.

Here's what I figured out tonight... iPhone needs to be turned into a regular iPod (i.e. airplane mode or bluetooth disabled) then plugged in, then the 430N reads it just fine. The voice commands are simply amazing! I tried "play, artist, Pink Floyd" and the whole catalog came up for Floyd. Then I tried "play, album, Back in Black" and the album loaded, starting with the first track. I tried a curveball and asked it to "play, song, Let It Be" and it found it in like 1.2 seconds after scanning over 5000+ songs on my iPhone.

I am dusting off my old 60GB iPod, loading the newest Apple software and keeping it in the USB center console for good, leaving the bluetooth option available for Pandora and the like.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Why not just use the HDD? I was doing a lot of what you guys did, but then found music plays better off the HDD sound wise.

My question - loading music onto the HDD, do you have to drive around or keep truck running? I can't figure out a way to do it without blowing gas and it takes at least a half hour to upload
