Re: 430N and iPod resolution

really depends on the quality of the file...but itd probably access the file a lot faster than always waiting for the system to read the ipod. i always have to wait a minute or two for the system to finally recognize that the ipod is plugged in. its a little annoying...

on a side note, is it possible to type in the entire name on the 430N when looking for artists or songs? when i try to search for an artist/song i can only type in the first letter and i still have to scroll down the entire alphabetized list to find exactly what i want.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

I have only been on this site for a little while - just got the Jeep this week-so I don't really know the site protocol- but maybe when we think we have all the iPhone/iPod issues figured out, somebody could basically put together an instruction piece for these devices and turn it into a sticky.

My question - loading music onto the HDD, do you have to drive around or keep truck running? I can't figure out a way to do it without blowing gas and it takes at least a half hour to upload
I have downloaded about 80 CD's to the HDD in the past week while running around town and a shot trip Up North MI. Sounds much better from HDD. Just put it on ACC and every half hour go put a new one in. I found that most CD's take less than 15 minutes to load.

Yeah, not a big fan of the HDD. The first CD I loaded screwed up the song list and took forever to load. Thinking my 60GB in the console will work just fine for me, and I don't hear a difference in quality. Ymmv.

Different strokes for different folks.....that is why you have the HDD, USB and BT to connect to. I have used all 3 and my old ears think the HDD sounds and works best for me. BT is also not bad......and works well.

Forget loading CD's. That is ancient technology. Get an external hard drive, format it at Fat 32, bam done.

How do I put the car into ACC so I dont waste gas?

Using the HDD is the best solution because its instant, just as fast as choosing a radio station. In theory you could load the Hard Drive up with all hip hop, plug in an iPod to the other cable with all Rock Music. Have an iPhone over bluetooth... Sirius, radio.. soooo many options. This jeep is TITS

With foot OFF brake, press Start button once...1 time..ACC in EVIC. Second press is run, third back to off....engine NOT running. OK?

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Just tried my 60GB iPod in the center USB and it did NOT register. Didn't charge, nada nothing. Oh well- frustrating as hell. I know the iPhone works, but I'd have to disable the BT before using it as an iPod only function. What good is that?

Then I tried "play, album, Back in Black" and the album loaded, starting with the first track. I tried a curveball and asked it to "play, song, Let It Be" and it found it in like 1.2 seconds after scanning over 5000+ songs on my iPhone.

I am dusting off my old 60GB iPod, loading the newest Apple software and keeping it in the USB center console for good, leaving the bluetooth option available for Pandora and the like.
Wow, good advice. I will probably do the same.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Logan -
Earlier post you referenced your "old" 60gig iPod - did you update the software on the iPod to the latest version? The only reason I ask is because my iPod didn't work until I did that. I agree about not wanting to lose the BT on the iPhone.
Is it possible to load the HDD thru the radio usb on dash from the iPod? Haven't tried to load the HDD with anything yet.

No way, JLaw. iPods/iPhones aren't made that way at least not for transferring music files. They work on the concept of syncing with a primary host computer. It is possible to use them as portable drives but not in this scenario. This was discussed in some detail on either this or a related thread. Another member asked a similar question about uploading from an iPad...not gonna happen.

I encourage you to try the HDD and consider it as your primary music source. Yes there is a nominal bit of 1-time effort involved in loading it up but the payoff is definitely there.
