Re: 430N and iPod resolution

I meant "iPod" as the open, frontmost app.

When you disconnect you'll see an error. But then I try again and it works like a charm.

I tried quite a few things, so maybe something else fixed it. But I hope these tricks work for you.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Marky-

I have been using an iPod in the armrest USB and my phone on bluetooth (mostly for Pandora - my iPod library is also on the phone) but couldn't get the phone to work on the armrest USB. Are you saying that you had the phone's iPod app open when you plugged into the USB, and that made your phone's music library available for playing on the 430n? I haven't tried that - but it makes some sense to me.
I don't know if I have the energy to compile all the different pieces of knowledge that are accumulating on the threads regarding the 430n (wish Jeep would do it!) but boy it would be helpful. I suppose, once I get my own rig ironed out, that will be the end of it- I must be a selfish bastard.
I am not surprised that there are issues for Jeep owners making this stuff work- Apple is notorious for not playing well with others (not bashing here- windows user at work and home laptop, but have iPad, iPhone and old iPod, also), and there are lots and lots of phones out there - there is a part of me that is amazed that any of this stuff works at all.
Still love my Jeep.

You can also use voice commands to search on an iPod.

I was using an older (about 5 years) generation ipod 60gb. I saw the A-Z button and tried pushing it several times but it would not do anything.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

Yes. The "iPod" app is open. It says something like external device connected, but it is upfront. Sometimes I forget before I plug it in, but as long as I remember quickly to bring it up front it works. Like I said, ymmv.

As far as bashing apple goes, I'm a Mac user sine 1986, a shareholder, and I own a company that develops IOS apps. I'm the first to bash!!

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

In my opinion, it is not Apple's fault here. The iPod, iPhone 3, and iPhone 4 are all working as designed and properly.

Plug any of these devices in your PC or Mac and it will appear in iTunes and sync. Furthermore, you can view all of the music on the device and play any of the music or playlists right from your mac or pc.

What this means is that the interface implemented on the Mac or PC is done correctly as they are able to use the iPhone/iPod exactly how the 430N is suppose to be able to use them.

So, if Jeep (or the maker of the 430N) were to just implement their code in the 430N correctly, it could access all of the information on the iPhone/iPod without any issues. Also, it only takes a second or two to have these devices appear on your Mac or PC. I would expect it to take longer on the 430N because it doesn't have the same processing power. But less than 5-10 seconds should easily be achievable.

Re: 430N and iPod resolution

I've got a Laredo x with the pentastar and OR2 package -- inferno red.

I'm happy to try to answer IOS questions, but I haven't read any of the docs on the hardware interfaces.

I've been taking my gc out on the beach on Long Island. I'll try to get a pic in a nice spot soon.

I may be mistaken, but unless you have only MP3 files on itunes and don't purchase their music... this method won't work. The apple itunes music is in a protected format and I would assume that transferring those files to the HDD would be all for not. Can you confirm the type of files your transferred? I hope it's that simple as I was planning to go through the long tedious process of converting all of those protected files into MP3's.

Thanks!

Added: I got home and transferred an .m4a file from itunes and it worked. Guess I answered my own question... you can transfer an itunes purchased file to the RHB without any issues. sweet!!

That's not 100% true, matt376. Apple used to sell DRM-protected music but stopped at a certain point. Now when you buy music from iTunes, it is unprotected. You probably just transfered a file that was purchased in the post-DRM era. I have tons of purchased music from iTunes that I've had to convert before loading to the HDD.

I was just noticing that the other day when trying to transfer my music. It seems like everything that I purchased from iTunes prior to 2009 was DRM Protected.

I ended up buying a program called Tuneconvert and have been converting most of those protected ones over to MP3's.

If you still have your iTunes account you can have it upgrade all of your protected songs so that they no longer contain DRM. As a plus you also get a much higher bit rate (256kbps instead of 128kbps) so the music sounds a LOT better.

I did all of mine (hundreds) last year. I think that it was either free or maybe a nominal cost associated with each song. (19 cents each?) Well worth it as now I own the music and can load it onto hard drives like in the Jeep
