Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

After hearing all these horror stories I dusted off an old 30G iPod classic and rebuilt it from scratch. I'll simply plug that into the console jack (430N) and let the iPhone connect via BT as just a phone. Problem solved!

I could upload the music to the HDD and might do that eventually as an audio quality and search capability comparison.

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

I'm seriously considering getting an old 8 track player from the swap meet and using that although Chrysler probably won't support it without a software update.

Just did the same thing w/60GB iPod classic. Reformatted it and loaded the songs again, so we'll see. Let me know how yours works out-

Map data will not be free, you can count on that one.

Just what I hear the dealer saying about the 430's they were considering offering free maps to Chrysler. If not you can still get lifetime for $89 which is better than $200 a year for a new disk.

speaking of downloads, has anyone go to garmin.com/downloads and try any of the extas for the Garmin system like the games or the voice studio?

Is your Iphone the Iphone 4? I have the original I phone and a 4 and I could not get either one to work at all. Ipod classic hooked right up and worked great.

How are you guys transferring I tunes files to the HDD? I tried my external hard drive..no bueno.

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

My iPhone 4 works perfectly streaming and plugged into the arm rest, never had an issue. I transfer files from a 16GB flash drive plugged into the head unit. Make sure MP3's or JPG's are the only files on the drives.

I'm pretty sure none of those will work with the 430N. Most require you to use webupdater that runs on your PC and detects the device when you plug it into the USB port. You might try to connect the 430N through the dash port to your computer to see if it recognizes it but I doubt that's going to work.

Here are the 4 links in the Support FAQ that relate to the 430N

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

For transferring files to hard drive you need to format the drive in Fat 32. That is what I read on another thread, and that is what worked for me. It may works as NTFS but I didn't even try it as the other thread had many people saying Fat 32.

That being said, once your files are on the hard drive, plug the drive into the dashboard USB port, and then you can upload them all to the HDD. IMO this is much better audio quality then the iPhone 4 bluetooth streaming at this time. I don't expect bluetooth streaming to have much better quality even after an update because there must be some sort of compression being used to be able to play so quickly over the air like that.

All of you should use the HDD. It works great, why bother plugging in your ipods even?

If you use the HDD, you can ALSO use the bluetooth streaming by switching from HDD to AUX. So in theory you have multiple sources of music, granted one sounds better then the other.

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

We really need one big thread for the 430N actually. There are so many threads and info all over the place. Here are things I'd like to know:

How do you load custom POI's?
Can you download a set of POI's, load them up and be done? What is the process?
What is the best way to tag your music files? All of my files are tagged perfectly in iTunes but if I look at Genres on my 430N there are tons of geners all over the place so obviously its not the same as done in iTunes.
How do you change the default Jeep Picture?
Is it possible to play movies off the HDD? Can you load a DVD movie to watch while in park?
What updates are planned and when will they be released if so?
What are the many voice commands to play your music?
Can we create custom playlists? Scrolling thorough all of my albums to get to an album that begins with the letter Z takes too long.

I'm sure theres way more questions
