Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

I emailed and was told that the software update was released in November and was available through dealers.

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

let me know if you get the disk. I will have to hit the dealer up for a copy of the disk if it is out.

"we" as in everybody that has the 430N? Do you have to request it?

PMD, here's the body of the email I received. It was about as helpful as teats on a bull as far as my original question, but maybe it'll help others who need this info:

"Global Positioning System maps drive the DVD-based navigation systems
available for our vehicles. The maps cover more than 6 million miles of
road in the U.S. and Canada and more than 8 million points of interest.
Because roads, routes, and points-of-interest are ever-changing, it's a
good idea to update your navigation system periodically with the latest
information.

To purchase new, updated NAVTEQ DVD discs for your Alpine in-vehicle
navigation system you can order from Navteq directly at 866-628-8372, or
order online on the "For Owners" page on any of our brand websites
(www.Chrysler.com, www.Dodge.com, www.Jeep.com).

To order online on the "For Owners" page, click on the list in the
"Operating My Vehicle" section or click on the following link: http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners/navteq/index.html

NAVTEQ offers a service where you can register with them to be notified
of available updates. We suggest that you register by following this
path: Jeep® - http://www.Jeep.com click on "for owners" click on
"technology" (found in the servicing & operating my vehicle section),
click on "NAVTEQ Navigation Updates" click on "NAVTEQ" (you will leave
the our brand site), click on "support" click on "update availability"
click on "register with us" click on "North America". This should
ensure that you will always be notified of the most current updates.

If your navigation system is a Navus system by Mopar, you may contact
your Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep® or Ram dealer to purchase map updates. It
is a 2gb CompactFlash drive data card and is not compatible with the
Alpine/NavTeq systems. It is part number PN 05175016AA."

I had already seen the NAVTEQ link at the Jeep owners' page before getting this. It's pretty prominent on that page.

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

Just tossing in my notes from a conversation I had just now with Jay from Jeep Cust Service. He was calling about the 430n update in response to my email inquiry. Pretty much in line with what others have reported so far:

* Update is still in development. No timeline available, not even an estimate at this point.
* Reason for physical disc vs download was for owner convenience and consistency of upgrade experience.
* CDs will be mailed out selectively based on owner VIN. Only 430n owners will receive them (obvious but he made that point).
* Re start date of free 12 month Travel Link subscription: "We have been told that Sirius will coordinate this once feature is activated. 12 month subscription will begin on the date that each media center is updated and activated." This was good to hear, assuming it holds up in actual practice.

We then had a nice chat about the WK2 and discussed the snowfall in Michigan. I even threw in a shoutout for JeepGarage.org. It was a nice touch for ChryCo to do this followup. I am not chomping at the bit for the TLink update but remain openminded. It may just become a killer app in my Jeep once I get used to it. I'm more interested in the voice texting. With 2 teens in the household this is easily the predominant form of communication in our family!

The question is, which comes first, the udpate for the 430 or the brand new 730N lol

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

^^I am going to research the 730N, RHR, for possible switch for the 430N. I know what the 430 is all about and it's not all that bad, in fact I like the Garmin Nav. But the toy's on the RHR seem very enticing! ! ! The one thing is, do the controls work with the RHR? Looks like more fun for all......

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

I haven't had a single problem out of my 430N, no iPhone4 problems with music streaming or bluetooth connectivity. My lockpick allows me to use all features while in drive and I can also watch movies up front as well!

My only complaint is the Garmin graphics are a little outdated IMO and I don't care for the routing most of the time, it does some pretty stupid stuff on routes. Other than that, I love my 430N! Just wish they would get the travel link fixed, looks like it has some nice features!

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

I have been told the same timeline, end of January, although my dealer wasn't even aware of an issue with the Travel Link. Hopefully the update corrects the Travel Link problem, center console ipod connection error & CD disc art tagging for disc that have been loaded to the HDD. Odd to see an AC/DC album tagged with the artwork for Toby Keith.....
