Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

I never got anything in the mail, but I also haven't said much to anyone other than the service dept. where I got nothing but blank stares. So I was wondering if anyone has gotten any updates on the Travel Link in the last few days as I'm bringing in my GC on Monday for a different recurrent issue. Any info that I can relay to them would be most help
Thanks,
M Oaks

Sirius Travel Link is basically the same offering Garmin had with their standalone units (FM MSN Direct) with weather, fuel prices and movie times. They may have added some new information to later units but I haven't purchased a Garmin unit in a while since more and more vehicles offer integrated options. The Sirius version adds sports scores similar to a separate Sirius radio unit I have laying around where you could get sports scores pop up for your favorite teams.

Sirius Travel Link will cost you $2 a month plus taxes and fees after the initial trial.

Sirius Traffic gives you traffic information from different sources although it's not instantaneous as most people would like. It's not there yet and users should use their best judgement as it's an additional driving aide like MapQuest was some years ago giving us door to door directions. I use Google Maps' traffic feature on my Android device, and for the most part it's okay but I would not trust traffic features to automatically reroute me when there are times the data is outdated. Again, for me, it's still not there to automagically take place of my own superior judgment.

Sirius Traffic will cost you $4 a month plus taxes and fees after the initial trial; there is a combo deal with the above two for $6 a month (wow what a bargain!), or yearly deals that may be slightly better. Data may not be available in your area so you may want to check coverage and/or test it with your unit before you commit to a subscription or even the 730N (RER) or RHR systems.

The 830N (REU) fixes the previous series 430/730 grand mistake and adds a multi-disc changer, slightly larger screen and more REAL buttons!

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

was told today that the update is now available and that dealers should have and we should expect update in mail within the week. Of course I'll believe it when I see it but this is at least good progress! I hope it fixes sync issues with USB port too.

Thanks for the update. Like you, I consider this pure, U.S. Grade A, unadulterated [hearsay] until I see it.

If you look closely at the content of that bulletin you'll notice this IS NOT for all 430N radios, only radios in vehicles where the WINDOW STICKER indicated you were supposed to get Sirius Travel Link.

Quote:
The Monroney Label information on about 930 of the above vehicles lists a 1-year subscription to Sirius Travel Link service. The radio in the vehicle does not have the correct software to operate the Sirius Travel Link features. A Compact Disc (CD) will reprogram the radio’s software and allow it to access the Travel Link features.
Check your window sticker, if it doesn't say Sirius Travel Link they you aren't entitled to this update...... At least that's the way it reads to me.

My window sticker does not say anything about Travel Link but my build sheet sure does. When I check my Sirus account I see Travel Link listed.

I agree, mine does too: RSMP Sirius Travel Link but it looks like Chrysler obviously knew about the defect and to cover their ass they removed the Travel Link wording from the window sticker. In a pissing contest they could claim that your specific vehicle is not owed the patch and the extension of service because your window sticker didn't call it out.

I hope I'm wrong and they supply the patch to everyone with a 430N but that has yet to be determined. Obviously the ISO image will make it's way to the Internet so everyone will be able to do the upgrade but only about 930 owners may actually get a CD and the extension of service.

Re: 430N and Sirius Travel Link

Just passing along what I found on another forum. There is someone claiming that their service writer says that the disk IS to be mailed directly to the customer and at least one person has claimed to have received the upgrade disk on April 21. I have no way of knowing if they had a Grand Cherokee or a different model with the RHB.
Keep your fingers crossed.

If ANYONE gets the disk before Monday afternoon could they please see about pushing an ISO image to the Internet or contact me directly via PM? I called my dealer and they don't have the CD yet and I'm leaving on vacation Tuesday morning early and considering we will be driving 2500+ miles it would be nice to have the feature.
