Does it bug the S__t out of anyone else besides me that the 430N auto-zooms in and out based on your speed? This really annoys me when I'm driving in an unfamiliar area and when going faster than about 45mph, it zooms out to the point that I can't see the surrounding streets and their names. I would rather the auto-zoom feature be an option? Am I the only one?

I have noticed that, too, Rad. Any "software knows best" design bugs me, but I haven't been able to detect any speed-related trigger to that feature. I have noticed that when I press the "+" sign to zoom in, sometimes it zooms in ridiculously small increments. These are minor gripes for me, but I have noticed them.

I use my nav quite often and I dont remember seeing it zoom in and out?! I will pay closer attention tonight when we had out for the evening.

This annoys me as well, although it seemed to be more related to whether the road was an expressway vs 2 lane. Then again I guess that largely correlates to speed.

Either way, I wish I could just set it to a specific zoom % and it would just stay there.

Yeah, it could be related to driving on a freeway but I noticed when I slow down to exit, it zooms in, which is cool I admit. Still, I want the option to turn it off, particularly when I'm just crusing around without being routed.

For those who say that theirs doesn't do it, do you have the 430N? If so, is there an option to turn it off? I've looked but can not find an on/off option.

Mine does this but I actually like it. I want to be closer in on the map when I'm driving slow. And zoomed out when at highway speeds. If I'm in an unfamiliar area, I'd rather adjust the zoom manually to see what I want to see. Just my personal preference.

I have a Garmin Street Pilot in my other ride (300 Touring) and I think this is a regular Garmin feature - I don't think it is speed dependent, but rather depends on what road you are on - zooms out on expressways, zooms in on ramps and neighborhoods - the incremental zooms on the Street Pilot seem to be more sensitive than the 430N - more time in the Jeep will tell me more - oh well, I guess I just need a good road trip- my carbon foot print is going to be enormous while I learn this thing....

I totally agree. If I had the option to turn it off I would.

I have 430N and standalone Garmin that is very similar. They are severely lacking customization options like this. In a lot of ways they are inferior to Windows Mobile software that is at least 6 years old (Mapopolis). It seems the decision was made by Garmin to implement UI as "dumb" as possible.

I have the 430N and I find the auto-zoom annoying as well. Also, does anyone know how to simply "pan" the map view around? I do a lot more browsing of the map when I am looking for a place or street rather than guided navigation. This was easy to do in my old WK's with the REC unit with the joystick.

I can oan around the map on my 430N by touching the map once and then touch/holding a point on the map and dragging it. The graphics take a split second to respond but it does work. I don't use this feature much but it was clunky when I tried it.
