430N garmin nav colors

I just picked up a 2012 Limited with the 430N Garmin head unit. I have seen the garmin interface numerous times and they all look like this image below but mine does not. Mine is more black and white with little color. Why is this?

Same problem as in this thread but there was no solution or answer there.

Re: 430N garmin nav colors

Does the 430N have a night mode, like the 730N? On the 730N there are two color schemes and three modes: day, night, and auto. The auto mode picks the active scheme by reading the vehicle light state (from the CAN bus). But it is possible to force either either scheme by selecting the day or night modes. Just a shot in the dark (heh).

Tried that. It just dims or gets brighter. No change in graphics.

Did you try playing with your dash light dimmer control?

Mine says version 33.00.44

I am starting to fear that I have the newest one or something. I hope not. Build date is 12/2011.

It sounds like a new version. I don't have my Jeep in front of me but I know I updated my firmware on my 430N (RHB) to 23.04.41 with an update that is available on the internet. This was to add Travel Link. That update was released sometime in Q2 2011.

I'm curious if this version has any other feature changes beyond a few differences in graphics.

Re: 430N garmin nav colors

After reading this thread this morning, I made a point of taking a look at mine when I went out the door briefly.

Mine is also "black and white".

The "View Map" icon does have some color (but not as much as the pic above). The "Where to" icon is not a magnifying glass but is instead a curved white arrow pointing to a light blue plus sign. The other icons are all white. Going into "Settings", all the icons on that sub menu are white, too.
I didn't note the version number, but I have a 2 month old 2012.

Yep, that is exactly what mine is. This sucks. I am not liking the black and white look. Why would they change it?

Re: 430N garmin nav colors

The colored image you posted shows a black background. But doing a google image search on the 430N, there are several shots of a white background.

So maybe in previous revision of software, it was white background for daytime and black background for nighttime? Now it's just black background regardless? (of course, the nav map itself still has different background colors).

Maybe they changed the icons and ditched the white background so that it was less "cartooney"?
