430n or 730n ?? new to jeep

im going to be picking up a new jeep limited 4x4 with lux two in the next couple of days. Im trading in a bimmer where my iphone with bluetooth works perfectly. Just been reading a lot of threads with folks having issues with 430n or 730n. I didnt even bother to see what radio was in the 2 2011 limited's i was looking at. So im confused, what is the difference ? is one compatible with the iphone and the other not ? shouldnt all the 2011's have the same type of radio. Any advice is much appreciated. I dont want to drop 40k on the car and have bluetooth not work.

Re: 430n or 730n ?? new to jeep

sorry i just joined the forum a few minutes ago. trying to get the car tomorrow and get answers to some stuff quickly from the jeep experts. Im running multiple searches and coming up with a lot of info but sometimes its hard to get a finite answer when you're looking for stuff quickly. Anyway, my apologies. I think from what ive read ill be fine witha 430n RHR ?? no idea what that means. i dont need bluetooth streaming, just the basic phone call functionality to work.

Welcome! I also traded in my Bimmer for a new JGC Overland Summit with the 730N RHR. The JGC can come with either the 430N or the 730N. the 430n has the Garmin NAV database while the 730N has navteq. Dont quote me on this, but I believe the 430 does not have bluetooth music streaming. Both the 430N and the 730N are supposed to support the iPhone 4. I have an iPhone 4. I am currently running OS 4.3.3. I have not had any conectivity or bluetooth issues. Bluetooth calling works great. Bluetooth music streaming is acceptable, although I hardly ever use it. i mostly use the USB in the center console armrest compartment. the only other issue that bothers a lot of folks is the fact that the 430 and 730 are supposed to have hands free texting, however Apple has not implemented MAP (messsage access profile), which allows you to do this. It's an Apple thing, not a Jeep thing....

THANK YOU!! so i just checked, both the limiteds im looking at have the 430N (im quite positive). I dont need bluetooth streaming for music, or voice testing etc etc.

All i care about is the bluetooth call / and call quality with iphone 4. I assume if that works in the 730N, than it will work in the 430N as well.

Reading threads ive seen these solutions from folks that were having issues with either 430 or 730.

1) Update mygig to latest version
2) loose usb connection in center armrest

I plan on testing this now at the dealer before i pull the trigger. It didnt even occur to me that iphone + bluetooth is a potential issue in some of these units.

Re: 430n or 730n ?? new to jeep

it shoudl work perfect with the the 430N the problems people tend to run into deal with the usb port in the center console.

Not to nit pick, but both radios use the Naveq map data base. The 430 has the Garmin user interface, the 730 has the Harmon user interface.

Re: 430n or 730n ?? new to jeep

the 430N has bluetooth music streaming the issue is with the iphone 4. Now it still works but you won't see any of the song information on screen so your just playing the music blind. Another strange issue is that the music will only work when the phone is locked. Once you unlock you phone the music that is streaming gets all messed up.

ok, so if i have the iphone hooked up for bluetooth calling, can i still play music from the iphone over the aux in and/or usb port. In other words can i disable bluetooth streaming (its an option i dont want).

I am not able to play music with my iphone 4 over the aux or usb port. It only works from the bluetooth wireless stream. Older ipods work fine, from both the usb and aux input.

In the 730, the USB port in the center console works with my iPhone 4(4.3.3). And to answer your question, in the AUX tab, I can chose which input (USB, Bluetooth streaming) will be active. So if you don't want to stream, you simply don't select it. I normally keep my phone on the center console.
