Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

The model I'm looking at is an Overland, which has Smart Beam. Sounds like I may hit the same problem you're describing.

I think if I decide to go this route, I will have to put a caveat on the dealer that I will not take delivery if the 730N swap doesn't work 100%. Who knows if I'll succeed with that, but here's hoping.

Thanks for the info.

Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

Not the best solution but this will work http://www.justforjeeps.com/ucmikit.html
I verified it today. I am actually putting an RHR in a 2011 JK at work.I tried the Mopar mic and it works.I ended up moving the wires from the original HFM to the radio connector and it works.I think that is what you need to do, unless you can live with the stick-on mic.

Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

I spoke with my dealer on Monday. He expects the cables this friday 6/10 (or next).
He scheduled the install for next Tuesday and will call Monday if they did not come in. It sounds like they are close to being deployed.

Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

A dealer here locally claimed Tuesday they took two of their Jeeps and swapped a 730N into one that had the 430N and it all worked. Based on that, I placed some $ down as a deposit that will be refunded if the 730N conversion doesn't work on the one they have coming in for me next week. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

The 430n the 430 and the 730n all have the iPhone issue. The problem doesn't lie in the radian but instead in the hfm module or UConnect m

Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

Picking up a Jeep tomorrow where the dealer did the 430N -> 730N conversion and claims that everything should work. Since I don't own it yet, which things specifically should I try out to make sure it fully works?

It's almost all about the microphone. Check to see if Voice Command works and if someone can hear you on Hands Free after pairing your phone. Also check your USB connection in the console for power and communication if you have a phone that utilizes it.

Thanks bigbore. That was going to be my plan, but things backfired. Yesterday the sales guy told me that the radio conversion had already been done on the Jeep and that it was all working. Today, when I asked them whether it's all ready for me (was gonna drive in and buy it), they said, "Yeah I ended up ordering a radio too." Uh ... what happened to it being ready? GRR dealers! Their plan now is that they have placed an order with the manufacturer so that the replacement 730N will be programmed with this Jeep's VIN in order to work properly. I'll post again here to say whether it actually worked ... if it ever comes!

I'm certain it's no surprise to you but it's clear that the guy at the dealer is lying to you. I'd bet the price of the Jeep that they plugged the 730 in and discovered that the microphone didn't work. Now they'll string you along until (or should I say if) another cable set is manufactured to adapt it. I'm not a Chrysler tech but due to having to do all the research I can tell you with certainty that there is no such thing as a radio programmed to the Jeep VIN.

This should be loads of fun! (UGH)

One thing I wondered is whether the 430N/730N in recently-built WK2s would be more swappable? This particular Jeep's destination charge is higher than the original ones which may be an indication that it was more recent?

Anythingís possible but I really donít think so. Hereís my reasoning so Iíll let you decide if it makes senseÖ The 430N uses a separate U Connect (HF) module which is located just to the left of the steering column. The mirror microphones and USB cable in the arm rest are wired directly (from what Iíve been told) to the U Connect module. The U Connect in turn connects to the 430N. The 730N has the U Connect built into the radio itself. The microphone cable and the USB plug directly into the 730N.
I canít see Chrysler manufacturing these vehicles with two sets of cables to accommodate both radios. If they had planned better perhaps they could have located the stand alone U Connect module next to the radio, not half way across the car, and made the connectors compatible. Iíve found that several of the German manufacturers plan a bit better. I had an X5 without heated rear seats but the wiring was there. Had I wanted to source the seats and switches it would have been a simple (albeit expensive) retrofit.

Re: 430N (RHB) to 730N (RHR) conversion question

STILL waiting on the dealership to get this one sorted out. From what you've said bigbore, an Overland with a 430N is going to have the problem because of the auto dim rear view mirror because it has a 20-pin connector and the wiring harness is a 16-pin connector (according to your earlier post).

I was thinking about it more this morning and theoretically, Chrysler obviously has the 730N installed and working in Overland models sent from the factory, so there's got to be some sort of cable/harness that's making it be possible. I hope what that means is that eventually that cable/harness will be made available so this will all just work. Are part numbers written on the wiring harnesses? Perhaps someone with a working 730N in an Overland could open up their dash and check ... a dealer should be able to do this and know for sure. Too bad it's like pulling teeth to get them to do anything other than get you to "buy whatever's on their lot."
