I believe there is a specific LockPick that will handle iPod video directly, over the iPod connector, but someone else will have to weigh in on that. As you know, your v4 only accepts composite video sources.
As to your A/V cable, it has to be the adapter itself that is the issue as there is no way for the iPod to know what the analog composite video output is connected to. Have you tested your A/V cable on a normal video monitor (your TV)?
I think your iPod does not like the Skiva MediaFlow device.
