Does anyone make a t harness to add an external amp to the factory speakers / speaker wiring? I'd like to add an amp to the door speakers but don't want to cut into the factory harness at the back of the radio.
I tried searching and couldn't find anything conclusive. Thanks!
Since you have the stock 6 and the 8.4 HU, a T-harness is not going do anything. The system you have has the builtin amplification into the HU. The following diagram should explain it for you:
I'm in the same boat. I'd like to tap in to the speaker outputs of my 6 speaker system, and run them to an amp with high level inputs.
I thought i'd read that someone made an 'extension harness', essentially that would plug in to the radio (8.4" w/ Nav & 6 speakers) at one end and the existing harness at the other end. This would essentially 'extend' the harness and allow you to splice into the 'extension harness' without cutting the factory harness.
I used signal from the 2 front speakers (too lazy to pull out radio or too afraid). Just buy a pair of those metra speaker harness on amazon Metra 72-6514 Speaker Harness for Select Chrysler/Dodge Vehicles ( I don’t wanna cut or splice).
Run the wires through the door to kick panel then under the driver seat where I put my line out converter or LOC. Same on the passenger side except you need longer speaker wires to go under the shifter then to your loc. Use a wire hanger to guide the wires.
Then LOC rca to your amps rca in. Run another set of speaker wires from your amp back to your doors.
I used crossovers and put it under the speaker (yes I double sided taped it on the plastic inside the door). I should’ve put it inside the kick panels... o well.
I have old image dynamics 6.5 speakers. Traced the oem 6x9s on a 1/4 mdf I have lying around and made speaker baffles (it doesn’t need to be perfect no one will see it) or you can just buy 6x9 to 6.5 speaker adapters preferably made out of mdf. I reused the torx screws. Next take out the tweeters, they have tabs. My tweeters fit almost perfectly just held by 2 sided tape inside. Connect both tweeters and speakers to the crossover.
I used el cheepo sound deadener USeal (from Home Depot) on some of the door’s plastics and the speaker baffle and so far no door rattle and tighter bass. Also used that to help hold tweeters in place.
I only spent for the speaker harness and Home Depot useal.
These were all from when I had my scion Tc
And I left the rear oem speakers. I have Uconnect 8.4 base.
Amp: kicker zx 550.3 three channel amp
2 front components are id65cs
sub is slim elemental designs sq10
LOC: LC2i

if this works, they can cut into the 'new harness' and leave the factory wiring alone.. and if it doesn't i'm out 27 bucks.... Money well spent (to quote Payton Manning)
