I'm gonna start off with the 6x9 components in the front door. Also gonna replace the factory sub(I have the factory Alpine system), and add an amp for the new sub. If I have money burning a hole in my pocket down the road, I will do the rear doors and center channel.

think i paid like $300 for all that plus an amp wiring kit. got the components off ebay and the sub and amp off jet.com

also got some off brand dynamat/sound dampener off ebay for $16.99. And gonna spray the inside of the sub box with rubberized undercoating they use on cars, and spray the outside of the sub box with bed liner to stiffen it up. just couldn't justify $700 on a stealthbox even though I'm sure they sound awesome.

The fronts, tweeters and rears came with that eBay purchase?

No. I didn't mean to confuse. The eBay purchase was for the Infinity components in the front doors. Those consist of the 6 x 9 driver located in the bottom of the door and the tweeter located up top. I paid 159.99 shipped for that.

They also make matching speakers for the rear doors, those are extra but reasonably priced.

Re: 6x9 upgrade in front; worth it?

Thanks for the explanation. I actually want both the fronts and rears with the tweeters and I never thought of using Best Buy as an installer. Ink was worried about some inexperienced kid wrecking my door panels and jacking up the job.

Cool... keep us posted how that comes up. Definitely interested.

6x9 upgrade in front; worth it?

Do the tweeters with the infinity's they made the biggest difference of All! They are NOT overpowering at all like the focals might be... Totally different material and size tweeter than the focals!

You screwed up if you didn't do the tweeters! Rear doors and center Channel as well to match!

I'm still wondering if the crossovers need to be hooked up. Maybe not to the 6x9, but just to the tweeter. The factory tweeter does have some kind of resistor on it.

No you don't need or want to use the crossovers with the alpine system just splice the tweeters into the factory tweeter harness.

Re: 6x9 upgrade in front; worth it?

So the guys at crutchfield said use the infinity crossover - that the signals were engineered to use the crossover and I will get the best sound.. so not sure what to do. Using the crossovers would require new wires and a lot of work. Not sure its worth it.

They don't know what they are talking about... If you don't have the alpine system then yes use them. If you do have the alpine system you won't get full range input from just the 6x9 signal...

Alpine system - don't use crossovers!
Standard- use them.

Re: 6x9 upgrade in front; worth it?

i was just wondering if there is a full range signal going to the tweeter bc i was getting some distortion. also if you look at the back of the stock tweeter there is a transistor there. so i am thinking about running just the tweeter signal through the crossover to the new tweeter. i will try it on one door to see if there's a difference
