6x9 upgrade in front; worth it?

I'm interested in upgrading the 6x9's in the front. I have the 8.4N alpine system. I'm thinking either focals or inifinity speakers. Seems like an easy DIY, however I don't want to mess around with the tweeters. I'm not a fan of super shrilly metallic treble sounds (so just looking to replace the 6x9's). I don't like crazy pounding bass either. I want a nice balanced system that isn't muddy and that is full and has depth.

Would this upgrade be worth it?

Greetings,

The key to upgrade the front door speakers alone it get one with an efficiency rating that is high, 91 db or better. For example, if you look on Cruthfield's website, the use the term SENSITIVELY for efficiency.

The next thing to determine is what type of tweeter you want. Focal, the main choice here, the tweeter is bright and tiny. If you do not like your music that way go for a soft dome tweeter which comes in many forms. Polk, Infinity, Helix and Alpine a few brand names in the soft dome tweeter category.

To answer your question, the upgrade is worth it as long as you get the right efficiency rating. IF you carefully search the forum, many speakers have been reviewed here.

Best for now.:)

Greetings,

The only one I would recommend currently is Proline: Proline Car Stereo | The best car stereo in Brooklyn
This would be their Atlantic Avenue Shop. If Junior is their that is the guy to speaker too. Their are plenty of other shops around all hi-end as well.

Since this is basic install, you can take it to even to Best Buy and they will put the woofer in. And, yes it does make sense because if you stay with a 6x9 or go with a 6 inch driver from the aftermarket world, you be get a better midbass punch that is sharper and more distinctive.

Best for now.:)

Greetings,

Mix and match components is done all the time between the midbass driver and up. The Focal 6 inch is a hard hitting driver that is very good. Some folks match that with a soft dome tweeter . It is more important to keep components the same when you have separate drivers for midrange and tweeter. You want to keep what they call the timbre the same.

If you are looking to this, I would recommend 2 excellent sources that have been around for years. However, they do not sell Focal but they other award winning drivers also. A careful internet search you find individual Focal drivers for sale.

Parts Express: https://www.parts-express.com

Madisound: https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com

Both of these companies have excellent support staff if you have questions. The products they sell are from the manufactures that design and built speakers for tens of years. Many of the name brands you read about work in combination with products from ScanSpeak, Seas, Morel and others.

Best for now.:)

I'm gonna start off with the 6x9 components in the front door. Also gonna replace the factory sub(I have the factory Alpine system), and add an amp for the new sub. If I have money burning a hole in my pocket down the road, I will do the rear doors and center channel. :)

think i paid like $300 for all that plus an amp wiring kit. got the components off ebay and the sub and amp off jet.com

also got some off brand dynamat/sound dampener off ebay for $16.99. And gonna spray the inside of the sub box with rubberized undercoating they use on cars, and spray the outside of the sub box with bed liner to stiffen it up. just couldn't justify $700 on a stealthbox even though I'm sure they sound awesome.

No. I didn't mean to confuse. The eBay purchase was for the Infinity components in the front doors. Those consist of the 6 x 9 driver located in the bottom of the door and the tweeter located up top. I paid 159.99 shipped for that.

They also make matching speakers for the rear doors, those are extra but reasonably priced.

Do the tweeters with the infinity's they made the biggest difference of All! They are NOT overpowering at all like the focals might be... Totally different material and size tweeter than the focals!

You screwed up if you didn't do the tweeters! Rear doors and center Channel as well to match!

So the guys at crutchfield said use the infinity crossover - that the signals were engineered to use the crossover and I will get the best sound.. so not sure what to do. Using the crossovers would require new wires and a lot of work. Not sure its worth it.

i was just wondering if there is a full range signal going to the tweeter bc i was getting some distortion. also if you look at the back of the stock tweeter there is a transistor there. so i am thinking about running just the tweeter signal through the crossover to the new tweeter. i will try it on one door to see if there's a difference

this dude used a crossover for the tweeter but not the 6 x 9

"• Tweeter: The component tweeter was installed behind the OEM grilles. The outer diameter of the tweeter matched the inner diameter of the tweeter grille. The fit was snug and took a few dots of hot glue to lock the tweeter into the grille. For wiring I used the crossover that came with the tweeter I did this because I realized that the OEM tweeters also had a crossover. I removed the protection resistor from the wiring since it was not needed with this moderate powered system. I also cut off the OEM connector from the alpine tweeters and added them to the new shortened wiring I made for the focals. For the Tweeters I would not say it is 100% reversible since I cannibalized the connector.

• 6X9: The component woofer was a straight forward bolt in and all the holes lines up; there was no need to use the supplied spacers. For wiring, the speakers were hooked up without the included crossovers since the amp took care of the frequency control, this made the upgrade quite easy."

Im also concerned regarding the 6x9 speaker load, I want to get the Infiniy reference 6x9 speakers, Ive read in some places they are 2ohm and other places it has a 4ohm load or that it could work with a oem signal that requieres a 4ohm load.

Im looking into the Infinity Reference 9632cf 6x9s

While looking into the infinity website it says on the speakers "General Specifications" that it has a 2ohm impedance but on the speakers advertising pictures it says it has a True 4ohm Achitecture...

The good thing about them is that they have a 94db sensitivity rating.

I want to pull the trigger on them, but still worried about the ohm load
