Re: 730n - needs replaced

Maybe they will replace your busted RER with the RHR or whatever the newer version is that is coming out. I assume this is what they are doing since I am sure they are not even making the RER versions any longer right?

Re: 730n - needs replaced

Any car company has stock parts. I had issue with my 730N (GPS did not work). Dealer tried to fix it and was not working. Dealer ordered a replacement. As soon as I left the dealer, GPS started working ... and it is working for the last month ... Replacement part came in 2 weeks and I did not want to replace it anymore ... Dealer still has it in stock ... if you are in Toronto, I can give you the name of the dealer ...

If you're just talking a straight unit swap, I doubt the cost of the RHR would be significantly different than the current RER.
this upgraded 730n is one thing keeping me from getting an overland now....sure would be nice to know if it is software or hardware .....supposedly it has bettr ipod integration as well

I expect the RHR to have some minor hardware tweaks- for example, the current 430N RHB doesn't have the iPod cable but does have a USB port in the console to which you can connect a thumb drive loaded with media or an iPod USB to dock cable for iPod control. I'd be rather surprised if that change isn't made (they may keep the iPod cable in the lower console like it now has and just add the USB port, I don't know).

Really, what I'm looking and hoping for in the way of a software upgrade (for the RER) would be to enable Travel Link for the 730N (the 430N is also waiting on it), introduce hands free texting, and maybe even some refinements to media handling on the hard drive.

We'll see, but while I'm hopeful, I'm also kinda expecting disappointment- the engineers could have just meant that the maps themselves can be updates and not the core OS.
