Just curious, in this case what is the advantage over having the musing copied in RER? The advantage of ipod is that it is mobile ... and you can sync your playlist with your computer ...

Re: 730N Option?

there might not be an advantage but i bought the ipod for the jeep. its cool to have an extra music option beyond cd's sat radio or whats copied on the hard drive. its easier to just download a song to the itunes and it goes to my iphone and my itouch. phone stays with me and ipod stays with the jeep....i guess convenience...i dont really want to wait to copy all that music to my HDD. i could i guess, i just havent yet i guess.

No problem, and thanks for info, I understand now.

Ill copy music to the RER for daily driving and voice control, and hook up my ipod for road trips

I thought the same. All I need to know is if the interface cable that comes with the 430N will work with the 730N, or do I simply need to replace it with the new integration harness? It's only another $90, but if Jeep is paying I want to make sure everything is included and works properly.

I'm not an Apple person or an advanced computer geek and I was wondering about copying files from an ipod to a hard disk on your jeep. It should work if you have only MP3 files on your ipod. MP3 files are easy to move.
Tunes you buy from Apple are in some proprietary Apple AAC format. You can burn them to a CD but I never can get them to move anywhere else. You may have to authorize the hard disk in the Jeep and that would mean you have to have itunes installed.
It would be great to be able to transfer my entire ipod to the Jeep hard disk. Any ipod experts out there?

Re: 730N Option?

I was curious about this as well - I was under the impression you can't copy songs off the ipod onto another computer/hard drive...I was figuring I'd have to burn a CD of mp3s or put them on a USB drive or something to transfer over...

The salesman did offer the option of placing the order with the 430N and then getting the 730N installed through the parts department for the same price as it would be to add the option from the factory. Apparently the 730N is still available from parts, and because both units offer NAV, the switch would be relatively easy.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? After seeing the 730, I especially like the voice command navigation option. Otherwise I'd just stick with the 430.

Also, the Dealer is saying I can get my Jeep now with the Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Collision Avoidance. I thought these weren't available yet?
The 430/730 is confusing and am getting conflicting info from the dealers.

Note that the adaptive cruise control, collision warning, blind spot detection, and rear cross-path detection are available as of 9/16/2010. I had been waiting for these and placed my order on the following weekend!

My understanding is you will have the 430. The 730n was not available when the tech package was released.

Not an expert, but to do this, even on a Mac, you need a shareware hack to transfer anything from an iPod to a harddrive. Not sure what form of operating system is within the headunit to control the harddrive, but doubt that a hack can be installed and run on it. As mentioned above, just copy onto a CD from your computer.

It would be easier to just load the music onto a USB stick and then import it into the head unit (according to the manual, this is supported). I don't know if it will also allow you to transfer playlists, so that may require some time to get dialed in just so.
