730N Option?

I had an appointment today to begin dealing on a new Overland. After reading the post this morning regarding the 730N (RER) no longer being available, I wanted to confirm this with the dealer. They seemed to be unaware of it initially but it became clear after we tried to do a build online. The salesman did offer the option of placing the order with the 430N and then getting the 730N installed through the parts department for the same price as it would be to add the option from the factory. Apparently the 730N is still available from parts, and because both units offer NAV, the switch would be relatively easy.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? After seeing the 730, I especially like the voice command navigation option. Otherwise I'd just stick with the 430.

Also, the Dealer is saying I can get my Jeep now with the Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Rear Collision Avoidance. I thought these weren't available yet?

Re: 730N Option?

Re: 430N vs. 730N, it's up to you. I do have a standalone GPS with voice command, but I never really use it- it's quicker to just input things by hand. There shouldn't be any difference in the function or capabilities if it's installed by the dealer.

As for the tech package goes, it was just opened up for ordering in the past few days.

Re: 730N Option?

If they are offering that option and you want the 730 and don't want to wait to order your GC then I say do it. I would make sure they put that in writing. I am going to wait until it is available for order.

or if you can get them to agree to it.. Have them agree to swap your 430N to the newer 730N RHR (January release) Its supposed to be same type of features as the 730N RER but a garmin interface I believe...

I'm not thrilled about using voice command to program a GPS either but my understanding is that you can't program either the 430N or 730N unless you are in Park. I'm usualy on the road when I decide to find a McDonald's or gas station and last thing I want to do is pull over. Even when I set my original destination I am usually rolling down the driveway.
So I think the only option is to get one of the 730N's or install a Lockpic or Allgig. I'm not interested in doing that unless I don't wait to get the 730 or the voice command doesn't work well.
One of the other unanswered questions in the 430 vs 730 debate is wether or not the Garmin is the superior device. Most but not all contributors self included have had positive experiences with Garmin. I haven't really heard too many people say that the Harmon really sucks and we will have to wait for reports from those who are now getting their Jeeps.

Re: 730N Option?

I wasn't able to confirm that at the dealer today, but if it 430N cannot be programmed unless in park then it makes my decision a little easier. What I'm really concerned with is the compatibility of the 730N unit in a vehicle originally equipped with a 430N. If it's a simple swap then it's no big deal... especially since they have said they'll do it for the same cost as the factory option. I found the 730N (RER) on the MOPAR parts website for over $2700!

The 730n used to be the standard option until they decided to change it. I believe they are same exact sizebit shouldn't be an issue to swap them.

Re: 730N Option?

You should definitely wait for the RHR version of the 730N. The RER version is not compatible with the center console USB port (which is why RERs get the old iPod Control interface instead).

Whats the difference between then 730n and 430n in regards to iPod control aren't they both controllable through the steering wheel and display the information on the screen rmac.

The main difference is the RER version of 730N doesn't have voice control of music... all of the other radios do.

Also, the actual iPod interface is different. RER version of 730N uses an iPod Control cable in the center stack storage bin by the shifter. The rest of the radios have a USB port in the center console instead.

If you get a vehicle with 430 or 430N, you'll have the center console USB cable, which doesn't work with RER.

Voice control of music is pretty neat, but yea Im getting the 730N and know there is a specific Ipod cable below all the buttons for heated seats etc tucked under the flap. Rmac- Do you know do the songs come up in the EVIC when you have an ipod hooked up? I believe it shows radio/sat information correct?
