Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Here is a dumb question.....how do you tell the difference of the RER vs. the RHR?
is there a screen that tells you?

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

The actual code is on the lower right corner of the system. So it will say RER or RHR.

Look at the 3 letters on the lower right hand corner of the radio.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

They went from the dedicated iPod cable to the USB port because the USB port is more flexible. Software issues aside, with a USB to iPod adapter you can use an iPod just like with the dedicated cable in the RER. You can also use a Zune or any other media player. Or just plug in a thumb drive and play the music off of there (the faceplate USB plug does not support this).

Not so sure about that, TS. I noticed that on my 430n, when I'd plug a thumb drive into the faceplate USB port, music would begin playing from it right away, even before I had issued the command to download that content to the HDD...

That could be a feature of the RHB. The RER will not do that.

As an interrim the 730N (RER) was an available option for the Overlands for a while. To make it even more confusing Jeep threw in some 730N's (RER) on some Overlands built in December without charging the customer the additional $305 for the 730N. Now the 730N (RHR) is a $465 option on non-Summit Overlands.

At least that's what I've been able to glean from all the posts on the forums.

It's all clear as mud.............
Confirming the confusion: my Overland was built in December, it has the 730 RER and MSRP was $44.685 and not $44,990. So I saved $305! The very same car at a different dealer was $44,990 (with the same RER).

My fault, your mixed reference to the special iPod cable as well as USB port threw me off as to which head unit you were discussing.

It's ok, I prob. should have quoted the post I was responding to, which was asking why they went from the dedicated iPod cable on the RER to the USB port in the console on the RHB (and presumably RHR). The short version is that the USB port is more flexible in what it can do.
