Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Hello all. First time poster here to chime in about this radio debaucher. Until I took delivery of a brand new 2011 Limited 5.7L back in November, I ASSUMED this head unit would do all the nice things the manual shows me. btw I have 730n RER apparently. Well I am disappointed bc I cannot do BT audio stream, pause sat radio, and thats about all I care about, I know there are a few more features I am missing. It would SEEM that these differences should be upgradeable but I've seen nothing around confirming that fact. Also seems that no amount of bitching to Chrysler or the dealership will result in my new Jeep actually having the options shown in the manual. Oh well, buyer beware, and beware or Chrysler...

btw a total side note, at 5500k, I'd been back to the dealership for a 2nd replacement of my power steering pump, so I'm on my THIRD unit now. This one seems to be working, possibly a batch of bad pumps is the dealers excuse.... oh yeah, and that pesky TOTAL FAILURE of the transfer case too, had to be completely replaced. And this vehicle doesn't go off road YET so don't go there lol. Lovin the car, not lovin big C.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Just an update on my rebooting issue with the rhr. I began to notice that it would reboot often when making a turn or hitting a bump. Not much of a mechanic, but I checked the fuse box which wasnt snapped all the way in. I opened it up and found several fuses that didnt feel pushed down all the way. Pushed and checked all fuses and secured lid. Went for a quick test drive and hit several bumps with no resets. So far so good! I'll know more later on today.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

So let me get this straight.

In the overland, we have been unable to order the 430N RHB for some time, forced to buy the 730N RHR option at extra cost. But I notice that there have been a few old dealer orders coming through now with the 430N radio. Maybe I will have an opportunity to swap.

I have a simple Nokia phone, and use my iPod touch or iPad for podcasts. I love the Garmin Nav system, the rich Garmin forum support, Garmin POI and routing features (don’t know if routing is in the 430N), and its apparently more up to date maps. I could care less about traffic features as the current 730N offerings are just too slow reporting updates. Running the maps app on my iPad seems to be better (and with a larger screen view) with the occasional tune into traffic on the 3s.. I can listen to sirius/XM on my iPad but I typically just listen to comedy and the 60s channels. The nokia phone works fine syncing with my garmin stand alone units (I have a hands free BT headset for the bike).

So it sound like I would hate the 730N and love the 430N, especially considering the 730N $460 premium.

Am I missing something, like screen resolution, responsiveness, brightness?... I dunno. There doesn’t appear to be a convenient place to put the iPad in the GC, however.

The reports of just out of date the 730N maps are and the expensive updates has me a bit wary.

The myGig in our 2009 Liberty works just fine for me as far as radios go.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

I too am comfortable with Garmin, having used their handheld units for years. I had to "settle" for an RHB instead of an RHR, but now I'm happy about it. A big deal for me is that the RHR leaves only 10MB of the 30MB hard disk space free for your music and photos. The RHB leaves 28MB free.

Both units will let you listen to Sirius/XM. The RHR gives you Sirius traffic. It's useful to have that integrated into your GPS router because it can automatically select a new route for you. If you have separate devices routing you and providing traffic data, you have to put too much attention into managing your route.

The other advantage of the RHR is dead reckoning, so it knows which way the car is pointing before you start to move.

Just to clarify - this should be GB and not MB

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Does anyone know which format a USB key/thumb drive should be, to work with the 730N RHR? I am using an Apple computer and want to transfer some songs to the hard drive.

Also, is it possible to export ACC formatted songs to a thumb drive from iTunes?

Thanks!

The family Macintosh is with my daughter at college so I can't try it out. Can you dig around in Finder and find the music directory?

Yes, I know where the files are on the hard drive. But, wanted to import ACC format, are .m4a files ACC? Just Googled it and from what I see they are. So, question answered!

Getting ready for my delivery in 10 days!

Thanks Andrew!

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Is the Overland available with the 430N?

I've heard the 430N is better than the 730N, but the 730N seems to be the only choice on Overlands.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

There is a software update for the 730N RHR that cures that resetting thing. Standard version is 2.11 I believe. They have posted a 2.12 and a 2.16 version. Actually, a newer update is to be available in September or October that should fix some small bugs.

Did I read we can do the update ourselves?
