I rarely use Sirius radio so in my mind I paid a premium for marginal service. Google was faster for me despite not showing specific events.
I tend to agree. Anyone with a decent smartphone can get live updates for free or if you don't have a smartphone just a little pre-trip planning is all you need. And most garmins allow you to reroute any travel, so although it may not see the traffic, it can still suggest alternative routes if you hit it.

One reason I was considering upgrading the 430N to the new 730 when it comes out was for a fresher looking radio / nav set up. There have been several complaints about the resolution on the existing units that I hoped would be addressed. According to wk2jeeps.com the resolution is the same on the new one, so I really doubt I will be doing an upgrade now.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

^i was also worried about screen resolution as others have commented, but it is really fine for NAV and something i wouldn't notice or care to upgrade for a better screen.

i'd compare it to HD television vs normal resolution - this bugs me for broadcasts but again for NAV and other functions it's completely fine.

Edit: NAV screen photos added below.

I then found this site and realized he had to be wrong. I called to find out what I was really getting and of course it is the 430N. I told him I was disappointed and that I would have waited because I want the Sirius Traffic. I asked if they will switch it out later when it is available. No word back, but I'm sure they will not. I hate that I had him double check and it was still wrong.

I don't hate my dealer or Jeep over this radio disaster, but I do love this site and WK2Jeeps.com for providing my answers.

I hope Sirius Traffic sucks and I don't feel the need to drop another $3k to get it.
To be fair, they've been back and forth on that, and your salesman probably DID check, but the information he checked was old.

The traffic isn't all that useful. I've found it come in handy once or twice, but generally you don't save that much time by being routed around jams- if the major streets are jammed, the alternatives will be as well. On long trips it will even bug you every time something changes on your route- even if it is 200 miles away!

It isn't bad to have, but I don't think I'd pay to have it swapped out just for that feature. If I were going to swap out one of these head units, I'd probably go with something aftermarket and then recoup some of the cost by putting the OEM unit on eBay.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

I am personally very upset with Jeep regarding the whole navigation radio thing. The 430 isn't in the same league of the 730. It was to be "standard" with the Overland. I don't really care about the traffic ability but interested in its many other features. I have not only delayed my purchase, but now looking at other vehicles. I would have owned a new Overland by now if the radio issue didn't exist.

I have the 730n and 430n. My preference is the 430 n due to numerous bugs. The 730 tends to forget where it is and randomly reboots. I will add that I have one of the 2007 models which was pre iPod controls.

Nice pics -thanks for sending. It actually doesn't look that bad. Anyone have similar pics of the 430N?

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Was thinking about waiting to order for the new 730n, but the GC will be for my wife and could care less about all of the tech stuff that it will come with. Plus it sounds like most people have problems with the voice activated stuff anyways. She has all of that junk along with sirius traffic/radio/weather on her 2009 TSX and we didn't continue the subscriptions on any of them. The weather and traffic was just a waste of money and as far as radio she'd rather listen to FM.

The most important thing to her though is the NAV which is ok on the TSX but is controlled by a big round knob and is not touch screen. I have always been impressed with Garmins user interface and it's ease of use. The GC we test drove had the 730N, and I was less than impressed with it and the maps and it's ease of use. So 430N for us it is.

moosehead, I'm pretty sure your three pics above ARE of the 430N, right? Please confirm.

I agree the pics have adequate resolution for nav maps.

Those pics are of the 730N.

The navigation interfaces are totally different between the 430N and 730N.

However, the easiest way to tell them apart, is by looking at the Uconnect Voice Command and phone buttons on the radio faceplate. If they are on the right side of the faceplate, it's a 730N. If they are on the left side of the faceplate, it's a 430 or 430N.

They revised the button layout on the 430 in the middle of the 2010 model year, moving the voice command buttons closer to the driver. It's not as relevant now that the WK2 has steering wheel buttons, but a much better location for other vehicles that don't have the new steering wheel yet.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

I just saw a window sticker for an Overland that had under "standard equipment" then 430N but then under "optional equipment" lists the 730N with the additional price of $305. Does that mean the new 730N RHR is out now???

As I understand it, the 430N came out only after the old 730N RER was pulled?
