No problem, this whole dam radio thing is a mess. Only thing that matter is that I got my Overland in October and couldn't be happier.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

One difference I noticed in a H2H comparison of the 430n RHB and 730n RER-- the 430n was much snappier at "hearing" and responding to voice commands. What seemed like an interminable process of pairing a device on the 730n, was very brisk on the 430n; noticeably so. Maybe it's because the library of available commands is smaller on the 430n (no nav input). Whatever the cause, my salesman and I both commented on it.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

Here is another Overland that is "in transit" status with the 730N as an option upcharge:

http://www.Jeep.com/hostc/getWindowS...RR6GT2BC605973

Does that mean they are issuing the old 730N RER again or is it the new 730 RHR??? Can anyone find out from the VIN?

Does "in transit" only mean new from the factory? Or does it that also used for dealer swaps?

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

I just firmed up a deal this morning with my dealership who is obtaining a 2011 Overland that is in transit with the 730N with the same $305 window sticker charge. 430N is standard and the 730N is optional and that's how it appears on the window sticker.

There are some Overlands still out there with the older version (RER) 730N and that is what my vehicle is (it better be). The newer version RHR 730N, according to Jeep Product Info, is not due to ship with new productions before mid-January 2011. The newer version RHR has a few added bells and whistles like USB upgrade, Sirrius Travel Link, Bluetooth streaming, and hands-free texting. Jeep, at the moment, doesn't even have pricing on the RHR so they can't confirm if the newer version will cost more than the older version.

You are partially incorrect. There's been a few phases of this, and yes, it's a friggin' mess.

At first, the 730N RER was standard on the Overland. This state of affairs came to an end in early July, leading the phase two.

At some point in early July (may have been really late June, but I think it was the first week of July), the 430N RHB was made standard on the Overland, with the 730N
RER being a $305 option. However, the way this was usually reflected on the sticker (at least for a time) was with a $305 credit if you had the 430N. Eventually they tweaked the pricing again to avoid this. In this time, if you wanted the 730N, you had to specifically order it as an option. In phase 3, they removed the option to order the 730N RER.

We're currently flirting with the time between phases 3 and 4, where the 730N RHR is available for order. Initial reports were that we would see a phase 5, where the 730N RHR would be the standard unit in the Overland, but I have no friggin' clue if that will actually come to pass.

The moral of the story: Jeep would have saved a bunch of grief if they'd just put voice nav command on the 430N RHB and skipped the RER and RHR entirely.

I'm a bit surprised at all the "hubub" over radios. I have the 430N and have no gripes. There is a january update coming for it, too, that adds travel link, fixes bluetooth music streaming, and fixes hands-free texting. Maybe I should be unhappy that my radio starts with a 4 and not a 7 and bigger numbers are better?

Is that gonna be a SOFTWARE update ONLY regarding the 430N? The issue I have with the RER/RHR is that it is NOT a software update only and a new system costs almost $3K.....

Milous has said a software update for the RER is coming, and it should (at least) improve compatibility with the iPhone 4. The Jeep engineers implied in the chat a while back that the units can accept software upgrades, but no word if they will add features. I'm not terribly hopeful that we'll see a feature add.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

A software update to the old 730N RER isn't gonna make it a new 730N RHR from what I am told.

What I was asking in my last post was with respect to the 430N update...is it a software only update or a hardware update? All the navs have upgradeable software, that isn't in question.

Re: 730N (RER) vs 430N (RHB) vs 730N (RHR)

I agree with the individual who stated, the entire radio debate is a freaking mess. I am taking delivery 12/27 on an Overland Hemi, Brilliant Black, Saddle/Black, ACC Pkg, 430N Garmin. I will inquire with my dealer regarding the Jan. software update. That said, this is what WK2Jeep has to say. The statement was found when clicking on Summit Edition.

*Due to late availability of Premium Navigation, the Garmin Navigation radio (model RHB 430N) will be substituted for the RHR (730N) with a $305 credit
(The new RHR navigation will not be available for production until late February 2011)

Some guys think a "C" cup is better than a "B" cup because more is better. I guess to each their own. From what I heard from Jeep Product Info, the upgrade in January is a hardware upgrade which may cost $3k, which in case more is more.
