730n RHR Aux

Hey guys, maybe there's already a thread for this, but I looked for a while and wasn't sure. I'm installing a mobile two way radio in my jeep, and was wondering if there is an AUX plug in on the back of the 730n, I know there is a plug on the front, but curious if there's a duplicate on the back, in terms of hiding wiring. Thanks in advance.

Re: 730n RHR Aux

Is it feasible to output your ham or whatever rig to a USB or other Bluetooth tx so you could have a wireless connection to your 730N? Simpler and no dangling cable.

It's a VHF mobile radio, and it is being installed in the glove box, where the wires will be run behind the dash. But it has an auxiliary port on the back of the radio for an external speaker. I've considered finding a Bluetooth solution, but I think that would probably be tough. I figured a standard auxiliary cable would possibly plug in to the back of the 730.

Re: 730n RHR Aux

I've never pulled the 730N, but techs do it in a very few minutes so it has to be pretty simple once you figure out how. Even then, odds are you'll find some ribbon cable handling all the i/o, and no plain old AF input plug like you're hoping for. Experiment long and carefully enough and you should find which wire in that cable is the input you seek, but you might want to put on a pair of diapers first.

If you don't like flying blind, you might make an over-the-transom call to Harmon Becker and see if they can route you to a potentially helpful tech, or at least provide a schematic or other circuit or cable-plug diagram.

A so-so solution would be output your VHF rig's audio to a commonly available 87.5-107.9 MHz micro-tx. Any port in a storm.

Re: 730n RHR Aux

WK2Jeeps.com has some wiring diagrams. I don't recall an AUX in capability (just the mic). I think you will need to find a USB, Bluetooth, or one of those FM transmitter solutions.

Hmm, so now the next question. Do they make a 3.5mm jack to Bluetooth solution that's not to hard to setup? Haha

Here's what it'll look like, once it's installed, looking at Bluetooth adapters now. Hmmmm

Re: 730n RHR Aux

Slightly OT, as you're installed a receiver, but I wonder if anybody has set up a Bluetooth connection with a ham transceiver so it handles send and receive pretty much like a cellphone?

Gotta wonder why (or whether) one of the transceiver firms is working on just such capability, built in and ready to go?

Ok, so I bought a 3.5mm to Bluetooth adapter from amazon. Will install and see how well it works. Should be here Wednesday.

Ok, so the Bluetooth solution would not pair with the 730n rhr, so, I've resorted to having an aux cable come from the glovebox and plug into the front of the radio when I want it, and hide it in the glovebox when I don't. Just wish I could plug it in the back of the radio and hide wires. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys.

That 3.5mm Bluetooth adapter is probably more like a Bluetooth earpiece. It is looking for a compatibly Bluetooth Phone, PC, or similar device.

The problem is that the UConnect in the WK2 is also more like a Bluetooth earpiece than a phone. So you are basically trying to pair & connect 2 Bluetooth earpieces, which won't work.
