Re: 730N RHR does not recognize USB thumb drive

I read the solution to this problem and it worked! The usb drive needs to have at least one.mp3 or.mp4 music file on it. Then the computer in the Jeep will recognize it.

Someone had the solution to this problem so I thought I should post this solution. The usb thumb drive needs to have at least one music file(either a. mp3 or. mp4 file)Then the computer in the media center 730N RHR will recognize the thumb drive.

Re: 730N RHR does not recognize USB thumb drive

Just wanted to say thanks for the input. Just got my new Overland 2 weeks ago and I have been going nuts trying to get the USB to work on my 730N. Tried a bunch of stuff I saw online but this worked! One MP3 file on memory stick and the MYGIG read it right away.
Again, thanks!

Re: 730N RHR does not recognize USB thumb drive

I went through the same thing five months ago when I got my Jeep. When I found out about the fix I called CS and told them about it. You would think that by now it could have been resolved with one of the radio updates.

Re: 730N RHR does not recognize USB thumb drive

I was going nuts trying to figure out why I couldn't load pics from my thumb drive. Loaded the .mp3 file and now it works. Thanks. I never would have figured that one out on my own. They should add this to the owners manual.

Re: 730N RHR does not recognize USB thumb drive

This is the only solution I have found that works thanks to a post on another Chrysler message board:

1) re-format thumb drive to FAT32 (in windows explore, right click and select Format, but be aware it will erase existing data on that drive)
2) copy both .jpg photos and .mp3 songs onto same thumb drive -- on the other post, it indicates that having both songs and photos seems to be a key to your drive being recognized by 730N
3) insert thumb drive into 730N usb port with car and radio completely off
4) turn car onto Accessory mode
5) turn radio on
6) hit menu button and attempt to add photos and songs -- your thumb drive should now be recognized in by the usb
7) if that doesn't work the first time, repeat steps 3 - 6 again

Good luck!
