Re: 730N RHR - Lost Nav - Diagnostic Help?

Thanks, I like the USB idea better than DVD. I'll let you all know what happens.

Re: 730N RHR - Lost Nav - Diagnostic Help?

Update on Nav (RHR) Problems:

First here are my original symptons with screen shots. Navigation not available, HDD info not available, system info shows navigation not found, phone book unable to load into HDD (first four pictures).

Using advice from this thread (thank you all) I did the following.

1) Disconnected the vehicle battery and let sit ten minutes to restart vehicle Can-bus system and reset radio. This step made no difference to original symtoms.

2) Disconnected radio only by removing green fuse M12 to see if radio reset without Can-bus system reset made any difference. This step also made no difference.

3) Went into Engineering Menu (press up and down seek and menu bottons at same time) to reset to factory defaults. The screen (fifth picture) said "restoring defaults" but never showed any progress or finish. I let it run for over 20 minutes and decided to exit, but could not. The radio controls were inoperable. The car was running, so I put it in reverse and the back up camera came up. After that the radio returned to the home screen, out of the Engineering Menu. Again, no difference was detected. Original behavior remained the same.

4) Made both a DVD and a USB with the 2.12 operating system and inserted the USB first from the system menu. The USB kept flashing, but there was no indication the radio was reading it. After about 15 minutes, I removed it and installed one MP3 music file on it, as I read here someplace. Same result, radio not reading USB stick.

Even though I had the DVD, I was afraid to insert it because I read about others who had the radio freeze all controls and they could not remove the DVD. So again, I was unable to fix the problem.

5) Removed the radio unit itself to check the input wire plugs for looseness. No looseness detected. Noticed that the HDD hatch was on the bottom of the radio box and opened that to check for loose wire conections. None were detected.

Took the HDD to a local computer shop to see if HDD was bad and whether data could be transferred to new HDD. Amazingly, they had a used HDD on hand that was a different brand (Hitachi not Samsung) but appeared to be the same in specs and size. However, when the technician hooked my drive to his computer he could see the folders but not access the data. He could not tell me if the reason for no access was a bad HDD or a different file format that his computer would not recognize. I'm not positive about this attempt because I'm not computer savvy and the young man was talking fast and was hard for me to understand.

Put everything back together, leaving the bezel loose to make it easier for a dealer technician to remove radio without breaking the tabs or marring the dash leather. After all this R&R hassle, no difference was made in the original symptoms.

5) Looks like it's going to the dealer for warrantee work. I don't have ANY confidence in my two local dealer service departments so I am now working with the service department where I bought the car (500 plus miles away). I sent them the four photos of the screens that show the problems. My hope is that they can determine whether the radio needs replacement or if they can correct the problem. If the radio must be replaced I would like them to order it in advance so I don't have to make two round trips there and back.

If any of you have any advice or help out there, I'd appreciate it.

Boy are you going through a lot of work for something that should be taken care of under warranty.

To *sox*: PM sent. Thanks for responding.

To JeepGrady: You're right. I'm doing it because I don't know where to get good work done by a dealer.

Re: 730N RHR - Lost Nav - Diagnostic Help?

Check this guy out. His information shows descriptions of exactly what you are experiencing. I have communicated with him on other media center issues and he is knowledgeable, honest and inexpensive.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MYGIG-RER-La...item4aa877c712

Go to the very bottom - item 1: Corrupt 730N HDD and how to contact him regarding what is needed to fix.

Best luck.

Re: 730N RHR - Lost Nav - Diagnostic Help?

So what harm is there in the OP asking the question of the contact I listed?

If it were me, I would take the GC back to the dealer and let them fix it.

However, they may take exception to dismantling the dash and radio - including removing the HDD. Personally, I would never inform the dealer that was done - can you say "warranty voided"?

The situation is likely either corrupted software or hardware. Either way, let the dealer fix it under warranty. A replacement radio is $2,000 so this is not small change we are dealing with here.

I understand the OP does not trust his local dealers for some reason, but that is his decision.

You have rigth!

i can only say i have many many expirience and the mygig need only a new hdd, thats it you can not "broken" or damage the MyGIG if you change only a hdd

When you go to the dealer its the "rigth" but a long way.......

Re: 730N RHR - Lost Nav - Diagnostic Help?

To Justal13:

Thanks for the tip. I followed the link and read the listing on e-bay. So far, he does not discuss or offer software on the 730n (RHR), only the (RER). I made a note of his ad so I can find it later if needed.

Looks to me like *sox*'s solution is the best way to go at this time. Now that I've done the R&R on the radio once, I don't have any problem with doing it again to switch the hdd. After it's done, the dealer won't be able to tell its been apart.

To Marco:

I responded to your PM with another.

Re: 730N RHR - Lost Nav - Diagnostic Help?

Update: Thank you *sox*

Thanks to Marco I received a new hdd for my 730N (RHR). Plan to put it in early next week after the wife gets done using "her" car.

I will share the results after I get the hdd and software installed.
