730N RHR Nav - Miles to next turn?

Hopefully an easy question:

In my 730N RHR Nav unit, I do not see an option to display "Miles until next turn". I guess I'm spoiled by this feature in my Nuvi unit and Google Nav on my Android. (my preferred mode is 1/2 map & 1/2 turn-by-turn on the display).

Yes, I can hit the "RPT" button on the touch screen to get a voice prompt with this info, but I would prefer to keep my hands on the wheel. Is there an option I am missing?

Thanks

Re: 730N RHR Nav - Miles to next turn?

I don't have mine yet but found this in the manual. Does this soft key show the miles along with the turns?

Navigation View Settings
Press the MENU hard-key to select the NAV Menu.
Touch the Full Map soft-key to display a full map during
route guidance.
Touch the Turn by Turn soft-key to display turn arrows
and intersection zooms on the right half of the screen.
Touch the Turn List soft-key to display a list of upcoming

turns on the right half of the screen.

Nope. But that's exactly the place where I'd expect to see some indicator. I can see the next 4 turns, but not the distance to the NEXT one. 25mi vs 1mi makes a difference, especially in traffic.

I do find the Nav does give pretty good warning - with first warning at like 1mi, then a couple more as you approach the turn, with a final "turn right now" kind of message right at the intersection.

Maybe I just need to unlearn the Nuvi/Google announcement approach and trust the 730N will warn me in time.

Click the button on the bottom right to view the Menus on the left then click the button on the very top left. I believe that tells you the distance and the road for the next turn (if I remember correctly).

Re: 730N RHR Nav - Miles to next turn?

Been dinking with the system for a bit just now. I can get close a couple of ways, but not quite:

(1) In Setup:
Menu Hard-Key>Turn-List (for split screen mode)
Distance to next turn does not appear in this list by default
Small button at top left of list expands the list to full screen (obscuring the map), distance appears
Press button again to return to split screen, map visible, no distance appears

(2) While Navigating:
From any map mode -
Options>View Turn List (obscures the map) - distance info appears
Exit returns to the Map

So, same BUTTON presses required while driving to get distance info, unless I choose full screen list in option (1).

So maybe I'll just continue to press RPT button while driving....

Nope. I really wanted the 430n because of the Garmin Nav. It shows the speed and speed limit like a newer Nuvi. I was lucky to find a late build Overland with the 430n.

I think this is what you want.
Have navigation screen running then hit the hard Menu key on the right side of the display. Then Choose Map Items. There is one item on the left side of the screen that gives you the info that you want. I have all of the map items checked.

What you will see is a white arrow on top left of screen pointed either left or right followed by the name of the street followed by a number in miles. It counts down then at .4 it tells you to prepare to turn left or right.
When you have just made a turn the arrow dissappears and resets.

I've had this for 4 months now, keep finding new things all the time. Just keep pressing buttons and trying different combinations and you can set it up to what you want. I no longer miss the Garmin.
Hope this helps

Re: 730N RHR Nav - Miles to next turn?

Thanks Sid,

You got me onto the right track. Played with the Nav settings this weekend as the wifey drove.

I found a good compromise. In map fullscreen mode, and All Map Items checked (as mentioned above), I get exactly what I wanted - A grey-shaded display at teh top of the map listing the NEXT turn and current distance to that turn. Bottom of map display is a corresponding grey-shaded display showing the current road.

Cannot get this to display in any split-mode configurations, but good enough.

Nav options are a bit "spread out" but liking it now.
