730N (RHR) – Navigation

There are numerous threads about the 730N’s navigation and voice commands on this site, but I thought it would be helpful to start a new thread since many of the problems with the 730N seem to be corrected. My vehicle was built in January 2012 and I did not receive the manual that should accompany the 730N. I could utilize the basic functions of the navigation system, but the voice commands particularly eluded me. Once I read the manual, I was enlightened to the ‘reserved words’, ‘barge in’ functionality, and menu hierarchy as well as short cuts – without the manual, I may have never enjoyed some of the advanced features. If you Google ‘730N (RHR)’, there are sites that have downloadable manuals in pdf format. If you want a hard copy, the number to use is 1-877-847-7166. They already know to send it out free. Be ready with the model designation of the unit - 730N(RHR). It takes 3 to 5 business days via UPS.

Yep, I had the same experience with some of the voice commands appearing to not work at all, even after having read the manual. In one particular case it turned out to be my interpretation of the instructions.

"Find POI" and/or "Find POI NAME" seemed to always return the results VILLAGE INN.

I finally saw a post mention simply saying "Find" (say name), ex "Find McDonalds"

Ah ha, finally success!

Simple case examples like this go a long way in any kind of software documentation.

The database seems a bit under maintained also. I have found several restaurants either not listed or listed under names that were used several years ago. The travel link warns of road hazards, yet when I attempt to find the hazard it is non-existent. The gas price at a local station last week was off by 7 cents a gallon. Like the unit, but it needs work.
