730N RHR Question

I picked up my new Overland: V8, Dark Charchoal, Light Beige, ACC and RHR on Thursday. I traded in my '99 Limited so everything is a major improvement. If anyone is thinking twice about the ACC package, I think it's one the best features on the GC.

My only gripe is the software quality of the RHR. The route management is something to be desired compared to a Garmin or any other handheld.

Now for my main gripe/question. Is there any way to hide the turn by turn list once navigating to an address?

One of the main things I like about any navigation unit is being able to see upcoming bends/turns in the road via the map. 99% of the time I know where I'm going and basically want the time/miles to destination. The turn list takes half the screen real estate for no useful purpose.

On the same topic, here's a bug/bad programming... If the legend/buttons on the left side is hidden, a button appears in the lower right hand corner to show again. If you hide the buttons and begin navigating, the turn by turn list covers the restore button so you basically have to stop navigating to show the buttons.

Since this is a long post... I don't think my unit is auto switching the display to night time mode. Anyone notice if theirs is working? Basic Garmin units will switch the display at the exact time of sunset based on your current location.

Thanks.

When on Nav, if you hit the physical Menu button you can choose Full Map, Turn by Turn, and Turn List. Full map should get rid of the turn list.

Also, in the same Menu, at the top there is a Display Settings. You need to set Auto Color Mode there. It is tied to your automatic headlights. You can actually switch between Day and Night to adjust the brightness. I think this is retained in auto mode depending which one it is on.

Re: 730N RHR Question

Thanks voregerx, now I feel better. I did have the display set to auto so I'll see what it does tonight. Good to know it's tied to the lights. I was out after midnight last night and the screen lit up the whole interior and I had to manually change it to night mode.

Re: 730N RHR Question

I found the answer to my auto day/night mode question in another forum. If the interior lights are set to the brightest setting, the nav will stay in day mode. I moved the interior lights off the brightest setting and the nav screen changed to night mode.

Thanks for that one. Was annoying to manually switch back and forth. Now if only someone can figure out a soft-reset for the unit while driving, I would be ok. Mine works relatively well (no major issues), but once in a while, with an ipod connected, navigation route in progress, and a BT phone call going, the unit simply gets overloaded.

Ah, thanks a *ton* for this (yay Search!). This was driving us nuts on our new SRT8.
