730N RHR reverses left/right channels on iPod

Today I selected a familiar song on my iPod, and expected to hear the audio start on the right channel and then fade to the left. The exact opposite occurred. At first I thought maybe I remembered wrong, but I disconnected the iPod, connected my headphones and listened to the same song. Sure enough, it played on the right side, then then faded to the left as I expected. I then played the original CD in the RHR; it played correctly. I copied the exact MP3 that was synced to the iPod onto a thumb drive and played it from there as well. It played correctly from the thumb drive as well.

I then tested this with the IASCA disc on all three - disc, mp3 on thumb drive, and mp3 synced on iPod. They all played the channels correctly except the iPod. When the test CD says, "This is the left channel" it clearly comes through the right and vice versa - but only when played through the iPod.

The Balance and Fader controls work correct, this is definitely just an internal crossing of channels for iPod play only.

Has anyone else noticed this?

There is also a very noticeable difference in audio quality when played from the thumbdrive as a MP3 as opposed to played through the iPod. The volume was much louder from the thumbdrive, there seemed to be more detail both high and low, and in general just seemed more dynamic then the iPod that sounded kind of muted for the exact same song.

There's nothing in the technology to make the MP3 and iPod volumes come out at the same level. The increased volume alone will make your ears think the louder audio quality is better. Try comparing the two signals at the same volume; I predict you won't hear a difference.

Except for the inverted channels. That sucks. What model iPod?

I'm not sure about the left/right channel mixup, but I can confirm that the audio levels are much lower when using the IPOD.

I have tried adjusting the audio to be at the same level and switching back and forth and still notice a difference in quality. My girlfriend who knows nothing about audio also noticed a difference even with the volume adjusted. I would say that there is roughly 6 notches on the volume knob difference between the two. It's a 4G iPod, but also does the same with my iPhone 4.

Re: 730N RHR reverses left/right channels on iPod

Well after working fine when I first connected the iPod touch to the center console plug yesterday, this AM I get no volume out of the iPOD touch . Playlists are there, I can pause and play, the time remaining counts down, but everything is very very quiet... The iPod plays the audio just fine when not connected. Is there a mute button somewhere that I accitentaly pressed? When I spin the volume dial, the number of bars change.

update... So I go out over lunch without turning on my paired bluetooth phone and things are back to normal, it does take 30 seconds or so for the play list to display but the audio is back... I dunno...

update 2.... Seems to work just fine when I don't bring the BT phone along. Inconsistent with phone, usually taking maybe 30 seconds to discover the iPod and then it doesn't automatically play. I have to choose the iPod from the device menu once it shows up there. The missing sound thing has not been observed.
