New 730RHR Navigation is sadly missing a lot of roads in my area.
Surprised so lacking in accuracy since my My 4 yr old Garmin with updated maps is very accurate in comparison.

Are there updated Maps available for the 730RHR, are they free or require purchase? Has anyone Updated the maps yet?

I was actually wondering the same thing... The neighborhood where we live is only a couple of years old and it only shows part of the roads in there. I know it shows a website (I think it's www.navteq.com) when you go to the information screen for updates...but I don't know if you have to pay for them. IMO we shouldn't have to pay for updates as long as our vehicles are under warranty.

I also looked on Navteq, but didn't see a 2011... they stopped at 2010 which is a different model Nav system too.

Called Dealership today, they're also checking on it... I'll post any news.

I agree, IMO the 730RHR should have current Maps since it's a new release model. The maps come from the same source and my Garmin Nuvi has the latest map DB; so the 730RHR should have similar.

If not free updates, then new WK2 owners should at least be on current maps prior to being required to purchase.

Some of the roads missing are 4 years OLD! Including a new 20 Mile section of I-80 with different Exit Numbers & Ramp locations.

The NEW 730N RHR Navigation Map Database version is N 1035 4.0.8 (On my April 2011 Delivery). The Current Version offered by Navtec for the 730N Nav Database is N1051 3.4.0 - Apr 2011.

Info for those wanting current Map data.

Email From Navtec Support Rep:
Thank you for contacting NAVTEQ. The latest disc for your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is version N1051 3.4.0 which was released April 2011.

As this version is not yet available online you can contact us at 866-462-8837 to order the map update.

The version included in your vehicle is based off the manufacturing date not the purchase date. If you feel that you should receive the update at no cost to you, please visit your local dealership to see what they can do in this situation, we can only sell the map update.

If you are asking how to verify what version you have installed in your unit right now, you can select: menu, then database info and the version will show on your screen along with the VIN on the bottom of the screen.

If you need additional assistance, please send us your feedback by replying to this email.

Kind regards,

They probably mean manufacturing date of the radio... or when they though about manufacturing the radio :). Name brand stand alone GPS units allow you to download and upgrade to the latest maps when you register, but built in units have you by the $%##s. Built in nav radios seem to continue to be costly to maintain and are always out of date vs the stand alone units. My stand alone garmin has a map update about every 3 months as part of a lifetime subscription package that costs less than one of the 730 updates, last I checked. Not sure how the garmin 430 works. If I could get the overland without nav I would...

Didn't I read somewhere in this forum about being able to do map updates yourself? Or was that software upgrades? Seems like someone somewhere would post the file in the internet and instructions to upload to the RHR.

Anyone with better intel or more contact within Jeep / Chrysler; provide some clarification to the versions & age of versions would be appreciated!

Several Calls to Jeep, Navtec, Chry Cust & Service Mgr of Dealership.
Per everyone I've talked to concerning updating the maps: Purchase is required, no "free/reduced" updates. It's considered an optional "customer choice update".

Map Version: Delivered installed in WK2 (Apr Delivery) is the N1035 4.0.8
Newest Current Confirmed Version (Jeep & Navtec) is N1051 3.4.0.
Previous confirmed Jeep Version & Chrylser for 2010 models: N1051 3.3.3

Extensive discussions to determine "age / version" of N1035 4.0.8 with
Jeep Cust Serv and 2 Different channels at Navtec.
No One seems to be able to positively identify version.
One person at Navtec said it "appeared" to be a 2009 Number... but couldn't verify.

To purchase current version from NavTec: $200 plus shipping.
When you purchase, they create & apply a VIN Authorization Code.
If VIN does not match, software will not install.

I ordered this disk and it is for RER only. RHR does not accept it. Now going through customer services at both Navteq and Chrysler.

I called Navteq as well and the customer service rep stated they only have the update for the RER, not the RHR. The Rep for Navteq seemed confused about the unit in my vehicle stating it should be the RER. She then went on to refer me to the parts department at the dealership to discuss any updates.

Just got off the phone with Chrysler support and she seemed in disbelief I had the RHR in my vehicle. Found it funny after getting my information she actually requested I go back down to my vehicle to confirm it isn't an 730N RER.

Chrysler support stated they would elevate my request to the next level and work on getting me an update for the navigation system.
