8.4 AN quit working. Again.
The end is nigh for unit number 3 and the anticipation is high for unit number 4. The screen went black while we were driving home tonight. And that was it. And the hard-wired HVAC buttons don't work either. But hey man...it only happened on the coldest night of the year just before the monster winter storm.
Could be a lot worse...like a flat tire on the AWD Subaru on January 2nd, 2015. Subaru requires all tires to have circumferences within 1/4 inch of each other for the system to work properly and not cause drive train damage. Except that the Continental Extreme Contact DWS are on national back-order and nobody has them in stock (Tire Rack, Discount Tires; Just Tires; Cassidy Tires etc.). I sourced out 2 so far. I may find a 3rd. But for now, the car remains parked, at a time when I need it most. Why Continental DWS ? 'Cause they are the best all seasons and I am a sensible (i.e. cheap) buyer who doesn't really need dedicated winter and summer tires but will spend the money on the best jack of all trades. 'Cause DWS is the all season tire preferred by the Subaru community. The list could go on...
But hey man, my reliable Jeep is ready to go. Provided that my wife doesn't have to drive it in reverse and we know where we are goings and don't actually need to adjust any creature comfort items like heated seats, steering wheel, or fancy that..., the direction of the hot air - which is stuck on defrost.
I have had the same problem more than 2-3 times each (the hood switch causing random alarms; the active cruise control; the infotainment system). I am tired of Chrysler Star Cases and Enhanced Customer Care. They do a great, courteous, reasonably fast, excellent job at repairing items that repeatedly fail. I just want my shit to work...
PS: at least with the Jeep I will not run into the 4 tire replacement crap.
