Does anyone know the specs on the Alpine speakers? If they can hold the wattage a better amp should be a cheap"er" upgrade. And doesnt the RA3/4 UConnect have a 5(?) frequency equalizer that can be user-adjusted?

Good point.

It's just a shame that we as [potential] owners have to go through these situations and scenarios -- same thing happened with the launch of the 2011s. Now, having said that, I certainly understand the business rationale behind the decision; I just don't like it

The challenge will be integrating the 3rd party system with the JGC's electrical system. It's a lot harder these days to drop someone else's system in these vehicles because of the computerized electrical bus that touches pretty much everything. "Doable" with certain adapters, but challenging, nonetheless. And the MY14 bus is completely different than the MY10-13 models.

Actually, with this system, and the difficulty it is to upgrade, $1000 might not do much.

The only difference I noticed with the hk system was the surround sound that can be turned in and off possible enhancing whatever you're listening to. I'm sure that swapping out the front door speaker for something nice would improve the sound also possible changing the little tweeters in the front door posts. An equalizer with more bands built in would've been nice in either car instead of them just putting in a bass treble and midrange graph you have lower priced cars with better sound systems then that.

To me, those multi band equalizers in vehicles are more trouble than they are worth. I had like a 9-10 band equalizer (Premium Sound option) in the 2010 BMW M3 I had and I never liked the thing. Bass, Mid and Treble are fine.

Check out this link Experience Alpine - Jeep for the exact location of the speakers for the Alpine system in 3-D and more.

It depends on the equalizer at least you can tailor the sound to to your liking other then what jeep wants you to hear. The speakers they put in there are kinda flat also so an upgrade at your favorite car stereo shop may be needed. Treble bass and midrange aren't enough

Re: 9 vs 19 speaker Harmon Kardon

All I can say is both the 9 or 19 speaker setups on the W2 GC are lightyears ahead of the crappy sound system I currently have in my 2012 STI Limited...and that's with a powered sub in the trunk too!

Re: 9 vs 19 speaker Harmon Kardon

In order to significantly improve the sound of the OE (Alpine) HUs, you'll need a processor, amps, components, sub(s), and cables/wiring/adapters for it all. It will get very pricey. Adding a 9 band $100 equalizer will do nothing -- even if you can figure out how to adapt it. Simply swapping the front door speakers also does very little -- due to all the frequency cut-offs set at the OE amp -- matched to the OE speakers. There is not a full-range signal in the front. Swapping the tweets may clear up the highs -- just like swapping the center dash speaker.

Depends on your ear because everyone's listening tastes are different along with the media they enjoy regularly. Swapping out the front door speakers aren't going to hurt that's for sure changing the rear doors might not be bad either depending upon what your using because it's all personal preference. A person can try that and see how it is and then add an amp if they think it's necessary because there's going to be a difference anyway between the way the radio sounds and what's put on an sd card with 2000 mp3s on it. If lower priced vehicles have better in car factory sound systems then we should have it also at almost 50k price wise.

Greetings,

I have not heard the HK system yet. However, the major advantage of the HK system as I read if correct, for the surround system they use the proven Logic 7 processing as oppose to the Euphony that Alpine sub contracts too. If you have heard the Logic 7 in a home theater system, you can hear the separation and dynamics of the music. The high-end European cars such as in the MB for example have the Logic 7 and that is way those folks brag about their system.

With regards to the clarity of the amp and speakers it is a matter of personal opinion. If Chrysler spec they same way is in the Alpine Premium system, then we know the result. Personally, with the why I like to listen to music, for sure I will be adding amps and speakers. Knowing the why HK products and brands work on all levels (car, home and pro) it should be tuned correctly that higher-end aftermarket products should be able to work easily.

Finally, the key question is how good is the new 8.4 uConnect to deliver the best signal into the Logic 7?

Best for now.
