AAC bitrate for CD Rips for 430/430N?

Does anyone know what bitrate is used when 430/430N rips CD? Is it better to just let head unit do RIP-ing or do this yourself on computer to high-bitrate MP3 instead of AAC?

Is there an FAQ on this subject?

I used a USB to load MP3's to the hard drive. Of course the higher bit rate the better it should sound. From my understanding it won't play I-tune rips.

What kind of usb device did you use to transfer?

I tried my usb external HDD and the 730n just tells me there is no music on the usb device.

I used 2GB usb flash drive, formatted as FAT32. Problem with the hard drive could have been that it was formatted as NTFS, or maybe partition was too large.

I used both a 2gb and 8gb formatted at fat32 with no problems. These were all MP3 files and took less than a minute for about 40 files.
