Adding a second "Rear View" Camera for towing.

I have a 24 foot flat bed trailer that I built removable walls for. When installed its impossible for me to see directly behind when towing and the side mirrors are OK at best but I would still like to see whos behind me and guage their intentions so I can navagate safely when Im towing.

I thought it would be great to just mount a camera on the tail end of the trailer so I can see who is behind me or if anyone is behind me at all.

I would like to add a rear veiw Camera and run it to the touch screen but be able to watch it when driving. BUT I know there is some sort of safety switch that would hinder that idea... I dont want to watch movies... just use it for the rear view camera.

Question to you electronic techs is... Is this even possible.... if so how would one go about getting this done?

Thanks for the help.

SPEED SAFE, NICK

Won't the lock pick help you there with the addl av inputs and the ability to watch a camera in motion? I don't have it installed thats why I'm only asking.

Red is right about the lock pick. It will override the video cutoff and provide the video inputs.

With the camera at the back of the trailer, I assume you would want a wireless feed. I'm not sure if the available cameras will have that kind of range. They will also probably need a +12v feed. I don't know if the red wire is rated at sufficient draw.

Lockpick allows for the addition of front or interior cameras (interior for watching kids in the back seat making sure they are not killing each other without having to turn around). All it would take is some additional wiring and some sort of connection outside the vehicle that could be connected and disconnected easily whenever you are towing. And yea you can view them while in motion or just while in reverse.

Yeah thats what I would like to do... So does our current system come with all the aux hook ups or would I need to go with an aftermarket system in order for it to work. If the factroy system comes with the AUX hook ups them it should be rather simple. And I plan to wire the trailer with a all weather plug that I can plug in at the same time I plug in the lights.

I will be looking into it... right after I get a receiver hitch mounted to the trailer so I can mount a winch.

Thanks for the incite guys...

Well I have the 730n and installed lockpick v3 a few months back so cant speak for the 430. I did not notice any aux inputs for cameras or other videos on the back during the install. I am pretty sure you will need the lockpick unit to do it easily. But it is well worth it in my opinion to have all nav and video functions available while in motion. also the lockpick install should take you less than 30 min being careful. Although running additional wires to the camera will take some extra time if you want to do it right and hide them under the trim. Let us know how it works out!

Re: Adding a second "Rear View" Camera for towing.

Ours has the 430 with CD/DVD/MP3/HDD. Not sure if that is capable of... but I would assume that we should be able to hook up a remote signal for an additional camera.

Not sure if the Lock Pick will work on it or not... It would be nice if it does.

Thanks again for all the input...

I thought I read something if you have the rear DVD system it gives u av inputs for like a video game or something. This should all be controlled by the main unit regardless of the add on rear DVD. I wonder if there is a way to tap into that?

I am pretty sure LockPick will do what you want. You most likely will need their optional A/V cable which is shown at the bottom of the page.

I have LockPick installed with my 430N and it works great.
