Adding D-pillar speakers to base radio

Hello all, I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but I've been searching for hours and have yet to find what I'm looking for. Any and all input is greatly appreciated.

Anyway, my 2011 Laredo that I bought a few months ago has the base radio/6 speaker setup and I'm looking to add a little extra to the factory system. I have already upgraded the rear door speakers in hopes of getting a bit more "rear-fill" and it has helped some, but not as much as I would like. I feel as though having just a little more sound from the rear would give me the surround sound I've been craving haha! Which leads me to ask...

Is there any way to add a pair of speakers into the d-pillars without a complete overhaul of the factory system, along with my wallet? Is this something that can even be accomplished with the base radio?

I'm alright with running wires and cutting holes to accommodate new speakers, but my main concern is wiring them properly so that I don't destroy my head unit and/or speakers.

Thanks in advance for your time and effort!!

-Bob

Much more important are the front ones in my opinion. Change those first along with the tweeters then maybe get an amp to amp those 4 channels.
If you want d pillars you'll need a dsp, more amps more money

So just upgrading the fronts will produce more of a surround effect? I'm trying to avoid adding another amp since I'm already running a 10" Kicker CVR with a matching mono amp..

My previous vehicle was a '13 Dodge Dart equipped with a 9 speaker Alpine system and it spoiled me, so now this base radio sounds just that... basic!!

Greetings,

A surround effect is obtainable only via a DSP unit that has those features only. Right now, you have only 2 such units. The JBL MS-8 will give you a 5.1 or 7.1 setup and the Alpine PXA-800 will give you only a 5.1 setup. The MS-8 contains a built in 8 channel amp that has very low power. As the member Jakall posted, you really need more amps.

Best for now.

Oh, there's one option to put out there... not that I'd do it. You could run the left/right difference signal to D pillar speakers. Just for fun... not for fidelity.

Cheers,
Steve
