Aftermarket Amp/Sub/Speakers with Factory Head Unit

I just purchased a 2011 JGC Overland making this the 4th Jeep I've owned. With all my Jeeps I've always installed an aftermarket stereo, speakers, amp and sub. This time around I'd like to only install the aftermarket speakers, amp and sub that I had on my previous 2005 JGC. Can this be done while still retaining the factory head unit? Would I still be able to adjust bass, treble, etc through the factor head unit? Is a factory sound processor needed? I don't want the factory head unit to somehow reduce the sound quality of my aftermarket speakers and sub. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Aftermarket Amp/Sub/Speakers with Factory Head Unit

There are a couple adapters ($100-$400) that fit in your harness that have pre-amp outputs. I don't think the head unit controls work, except perhaps for added auxiliary amps. There are quite a few threads here that discuss adding subs.

For example C2A-CHY23:

Moosehead summarized a few stereo upgrades in this thread: Audio Overhaul Advice for MY2011 WK2

Some good info in there. Most, if not all, are tapping into the output of the factory amp using a line converter, like the Audio Control LCI6. That way you should still be able to use the head unit's controls of bass, fader, whatever.
