+1 on the AVIC-Z150BH

I had the z140 in my old car and then installed it into the GC. No complaints and the z150 is supposed to be much better.

Greetings,

Your welcome.

I believe the Pioneer map SD-card updates are once a year. As I mentioned in my previous post, I am not sure which version of IGO Primo they use. If it is up on the naviextras site, then map updates are more frequent on line. The Pioneer external U250 GPS is listed. Alpine as well is updated via the site.

https://www.naviextras.com/shop/portal/home

I myself is currently in the debate as you are in. I want the best in iPhone integration and the best GPS. The current idea that looking into is running a Pioneer AVH multimedia headunit just for the media part, plus I have the ability to tap into the Appradio advance mode. This will be a dedicated screen for that purpose only.

For the GPS portion, I am thinking of using a Personal Navigation Device or the iPad mini so I can have full time screen devoted for the GPS. The voice instructions will intergratged into the stereo. The other positive aspect using the iPad mini, I have a dedicated travel device with the apps I need. When I do not need it, I than can use a GPS app on the phone via the Pioneer.

In the past year playing with different off-line GPS apps, I have found them to be head of the game, whereas, the in-dash is still stuck on the old technology including screen resolution. Pioneer gives you the most flexibility this days and Kenwood with DNN990HD has really stepped up. And, yes, Alpine by changing the GPS engine stepped up as well, but not fully into the phone integration. As you can see, I am still not satisfied with current 2013 in-dash gps lineup.

As always, when in doubt, just ask, folks here come to assistance of fellow Jeep owners.

Best for now.

Re: Aftermarket Head Unit Suggestions

UPDATE:

After some deliberation, I elected to go with the Kenwood Excelon DNX890HD. All set for installation this Saturday (assuming the unit arrives on time). I'm also installing the Kenwood CMOS-310 rear view camera.

I have dug through many installation threads, read through Crutchfield, and determined that I needed the following for my Laredo E:

Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter
Metra 95-6513B Installation Kit
PAC RP4-CH11 Harness

I think that's all I need for a clean install; am I missing anything (besides an amp and new speakers )?

Excellent!

If you want SiriusXM, you'll need the SXV200 tuner

Re: Aftermarket Head Unit Suggestions

Ah, yes, I had forgotten that. I don't really ever use Sirius much when I've had free trials, but it may be worth throwing in now so I don't have to worry about it in the future. Stupid question of the day . . . can the existing Sirius antenna in my Jeep be used in place of this one? I realize I'd still need to use the tuner.

You won't be disappointed. Perform the update with the newest software and it won't by choppy. You will love the control over the equalizer and dsp functions.

I cancelled my Sirius off my stocker, and bought Pandora. Cheaper and better. Please let me know if you have questions since I am running this HU for 3 weeks now

Re: Aftermarket Head Unit Suggestions

Subbie - I'm glad you chimed in since I've discovered that I'm pretty much mimicking your Jeep! I'm a heavy Spotify user and sometimes use Pandora as well. Have you happened to run Spotify through your HU?

Next on my wishlist for my white Jeep are the Alpine Grill and rear brow, upgraded speakers, and a stealthbox. I'd also like to upgrade the 17" Laredo wheels, but just knocking things out 1 thing at a time

No. Only have Pandora. Never looking back. That and the audio quality is better since it is coming off your phone through a cable and the headunit can decider the signal from there.

I have Focal components, Focal rear door, stealthbox and Pdx v9 amp. The audio is awesome and what can I say about the Nav, it's Garmin. Amazing

Re: Aftermarket Head Unit Suggestions

subbie09, does the DNX890 open and close without issue or does it get hung up on the trim?

It got hung up on the top opening. So we took it out and dremmeled the bezel by no more than 2mm and now it opens like a glove and with the bezel on you can't even tell it was trimmed.
