Aftermarket Nav Install - Trimming and Antenna Question

For those who have upgraded or swap their stock unit for an aftermarket double din unit, could you enlighten me on how much trimming was needed? Pictures would be ideal. What's the best way of trimming? Hot knife or dremel?

Also where are you guys placing the GPS antenna?

Re: Aftermarket Nav Install - Trimming and Antenna Question

As for the trimming, check out my 2nd pic of this post here: Spring A/V upgrade project . You can see the trimming I did. It's not huge. I used a dremel with a sanding bit on it. Used a shopvac and a wet towel to pick up the shavings.

For the GPS antenna, I've put together an adapter that will let me take the yellow SAT antenna cable from Jeep into both the GPS and SiriusXM plugs on my aftermarket nav unit/SiriusXM tuner. So I'm using the Jeep's SAT antenna. Pics of that to come!!

Don't have any pictures of mine, but I used a dremel and trimmed about a 1/4" - 1/3".

As for the GPS antenna, I have mine sitting above the NAV, under the dash top cover. I was initially concerned about a poor signal as the antenna is not sitting on a metal surface but I haven't had any issues yet.

Thanks for the response guys. I just finished my install, pretty straight forward. I didn't realize how minimal the cutting was. Still trying to learn how to setup/program the PAC SWC.
