Re: Album Art for 430N

Not all CD's have art. I can't speak for other media.

Re: Album Art for 430N

I have never had album art show up for either the 430 or 730.

Re: Album Art for 430N

Album art only shows up if you rip the CD and it is found in the Gracenote DB. At least this is my experience with my 430N.
I have been trying to figure out how to upload art with my MP3's, but have had no luck. Art also doesn't display from connected ipods either. At this point I tend to believe it is just the way it is.

Good to know. I have never ripped a CD onto the hard disk, only transferring mp3's from my computer to the Jeep. I will have to try ripping the original CD. Thank you

Re: Album Art for 430N

Guys, techy members of this forum have been trying to drum up a workaround for the missing album art issue for months. A variety of approaches have been tried, including a deep dive into the metadata that is stored with each track. So far, nothing has worked and the only way to get album art to display is to let the HDD rip the disc for you. Most have bailed on album art because this is also the absolute slowest way to get your content on the HDD.

Normally I'm that person who needs stuff to work as advertised on general principle and because that's what I paid for, but in this case I've gotten over it. I may not even mess with the patch if/when it ever comes out. OK, that's BS-- I'll load it after I hear that a few others have done it w/o hosing some other feature.

I tried it along with updating metadata, id3 tags, burning onto a disk, loading from a usb sick, loading from a hard drive, buring from cd to hard drive then using usb hd etc.. nothing except burning from CD (pre udpate) will get album art.

I havent tried since I applied the update but frankly, if I can find a replacement system that includes a touch navigation system, I will probably replace the entire unit.

Re: Album Art for 430N

Just a thought.... Has anyone used an ipod/iphone that has music stored in aac (instead of mp3 etc)? Ive had better luck with that in the past when transfering music with cover art to other devices. I should be getting a jeep tomorrow if everything goes right and will be able to try it then.

Mashie, just curious-- what's your primary gripe with the 430n?

This is not a whine or a gripe, but I have to say that I'm glad I didn't get too overwrought while waiting for the recent update. I installed it and I am thoroughly underwhelmed with Travel Link. The appeal and fascination with album art is (still) completely lost on me, so that's no big deal that it wasn't fixed IMO. The weather forecast could be marginally useful but it takes a few too many button presses to access it and I have not been able to force it to default to my specific city (it gets close, but no cigar). The favorite team settings had some glitches...I had to press the NBA button to get it to load my NFL team (that eventually resolved itself on subsequent trips to that button). Movie times might be kind of cool to have on the fly, but I'm too much of a planner to wait till I'm in my car on the way to the theater to seek that info.

Again, not hatin' on the update, but I'm not pogo stickin' about it either.

Re: Album Art for 430N

On files from the HDD the album art and track info is coming from the Gracenotes database. When you rip a CD it will only keep the CD art and info if the album is not in the Gracenotes DB. The Gracenotes database is right around 3GB and needs to be updated often. A dealer can update it. I haven't seen a specific database for the 430N out there (for download) yet.
