Well i personally went with the Integration ISS 690 because of straight fit (tweeter only needed a small tweak). I also went with the component because thats the Jeep's setup up front that i had. Installing a 2-way speaker for me would feel like a downgrade, but i could be wrong.

Re: Alpine 9 speaker system Speaker Only Upgrade results

Thank you to all who have shared information here regarding speaker upgrades. I plan to upgrade my factory speakers in the very near future. For me I started with the sub upgrade first and now will bringing up the mids and highs to compete with the new sub. I am new here but plan to do a short write up on the sub upgrade once I figure out how .

My personal preference for tweeters has always been silk dome and i know Polk makes a quality product, as i have used them in the past... and eventually ill work my way back to the sub and upgrade that to a Pioneer 8" shallow mount (dual 2ohm) sub and also re-enforce the stock enclosure.

antsjeep, have you pulled the trigger yet on the Polk speakers. I've been trying to read all the threads I can on speaker only swaps to the Alpine system. It seems the only concern on Focal components is the strong brightness of the tweeters, so I'm interested in an opinion on the Polk silk/composite tweeters. On the stock Alpine system, I have the highs turned down a bit compared to mid and base.

I can barely hear any highs from the stock tweeters.

so i just installed the focal isc 165s in the rear today this after installed the 690s a couple of weeks ago. while the sound is dramatically better than the stock alpines i do now notice the brightness from the rears. i think i will take the doors off and point the tweeter horn thing down towards the floor if that doesnt fix it then i think i will find a less bright speaker for the rear doors.

I have the same setup as your and agree the Focals are alittle bright. Already turned/pointed the tweeters down when I installed because of all the great info in these forms. I'm sure u thought of this, but I just run the treble at like a minus 4-6 that helps a lot. Also noticed after I installed a real sub the highs weren't as harsh when you have good bass.

man i am kicking myself right now for not pointing them down when i installed them. whats weird is i was running just the 690s in front with the stock rears for a couple of weeks and didnt have any issues with the brightness so i thought the rears wouldnt make that much of a difference but nope they are way too bright pointing up like this.

Re: Alpine 9 speaker system Speaker Only Upgrade results

Dumb question on the focals being to bright. Since using the factory's crossover, would it work to use the focals in the door for mid and low, then use a different silk Tweater?
Does that make any sense?
Thanks
