i was wondering if someone could give me some info...I just want a better bass response and dont mind my alpine system...could I drop in one of those JL Stealthboxes with its own dedicated amp and just run the rest of my system as is on its stock amp...I just want a ten in sub but dont care to go balls out like you guys and rip up my jeep like that...seriously you would have had to give me a xanax in order to watch my ride get pulled apart like that...I notice the smallest scratches on anything and I would be going nuts wondering how bad they were effing my ride up
Can that be a simple setup...just drop in the JL stealthbox with its own amp and call it a day? Any help would really be appreciated.
Dropping in the JL stealhbox is a first step to improve the sound quality along with a dedicated amp that matches the new sub's power requirement. However, because the equalization and crossover points are retained in the factory system, the sound that you are looking for might not be present. To correct that if needed, you should look into a processor (OEM integration) such as Audio Control's Epic.
There are other processor's out their ($ to $$$$), this is just one example.
The other thing to remember is, the sub is tied into the front speakers which IMO as with others, the mid bass is just simply lacking. If you find this is still the case after you install the new sub and breaks in, then, I would change out the 6x9 to a 6 1/2" driver (JL Audio, Focal, etc.) that will still use the factory amp. Depending on the driver, you will get a tighter mid bass punch.
This is easy solution instead of major surgery.
Best for now
